Excellent analogy. I tend to view it similarly. More like a movie, we decided on our characters, sometimes we play the villain sometimes the hero, sometimes the killer, sometimes the victim, but no matter the role, we are all apart of the film, and whether or not the film is worth seeing, or playing in, is subjective . It is up to each viewer, and participant to decide that.
@psychacks2 жыл бұрын
That's a useful perspective for a number of reasons. It suggests that we all play (or have the capacity to play) a number of roles in our lives. And that one role isn't necessarily "better" than another.

You're adding learning to experience, which is a key addition to the gist of the presentation IMO. What is still too little understood is that we reincarnate across many lives to learn and experience. The different rates of learning explains the vastly different levels of human consciousness on the planet.

Here is the crucial truth: If there is a purpose at all to our lives, then we have to assume a creator of our lives by the very definition of the word "purpose". It is the same with the words "meaning", "mission", and "calling". If we deny a creator, then we need to stop looking for purpose. If we do allow for a creator, we can say something about the creator/God. He has given us wonderful gifts. The gift of life, the gift of intelligence, the gift of the capacity to love, to have compassion, to desire justice, to want to be merciful. And let's not forget the gifts of our talents and abilities. This bestowing of gifts is not the action of an impersonal God. In our human existence, we use gift giving to form and strengthen relationships. And He has put the need for purpose into our human nature to point us to Him. And all the suffering in the world. They too are God's creation and surely if God has been so loving to us, then He must want us to help those who suffer. Not for some psychological "feel good" effect but because that's part of our purpose, how we fit into the creation. I'm led to the conclusion that our purpose is to seek God and let Him provide the directions.
@psychacks2 жыл бұрын
I think there's a lot of truth to what you say, Matthew. That said, not everyone is in a place in their lives where they have a relationship with God, and I'd like to think that meaning is still possible for these folks. Perhaps this can occur in an existential (as in, existential philosophy) sense, in which the meaning of life is created through our intentionality: the decisions we make and who we choose to be. Thanks for watching.

Hi Doc, Im 24 years old electrical engineer but I have figured out life. Your explanation of life and how to approach life is also scientificaly correct and I totally agree with you. Thanks for this awesome video. I have studied some very important scientific books, and all of them point to one thing: the age of the universe is 14+billion years old, but earth existed only for the last 5billion yrs. the size n age of the universe is immense, human civilization as a whole is a very very tiny thing with respect to time and space. There is enough scientific evidence to Prove that the god does not exist, neither does heaven or hell; life is in a way meaningless and has no purpose and I completely agree because those conclusions are derived from evidence. Thanks for this awesome video, I wanted to say that ur explanation is also scientifically correct. @psychacks

I've been binge-watching your videos and learning a lot from them and enjoying what I've heard. You have a great talent for explaining concepts. There is one thing I disagree with in this video. I think there is a right and wrong way to live life. The ultimate goal is to do it right. There are many ways in which this can be achieved though. To expand on your analogy - it is okay for one person to go on all the rides at Disneyland and another to go on a single ride repeatedly the entire time. However, there are right and wrong ways to spend your time on the ride(s). If one disobeys the rules of the ride, such as refusing to put on their seatbelt when they are required to do so, then they are experiencing the ride incorrectly. Additionally, if the point of being on a ride is to experience it, but one closes their eyes and plugs their ears, then they are not experiencing the ride correctly. Similarly, you can choose whatever you want to experience in life, but there are still right and wrong ways to go about each experience. And I believe that there are consequences to the choices we make in this life on the other side.

Why do we exist in life?
@MCharlerySmith2 жыл бұрын
This is a great example in many ways but I do disagree with aspects of it. There *IS* a "wrong way to do Disneyland" and that's by not following the rules of the park. Aggression, antisocial behaviour, injuring other visitors, jumping the queue, tampering with equipment, mistreating the animals, wandering into restricted areas, vandalism, public indecency (nakedness and sexual acts), preventing others from entering the park etc are all forbidden. These are public guidelines and are to be adhered to by all. In a world of moral relativism we often negate the reality that there are universal moral laws to live by. We want to be our own gods but this is promotes chaos in the form of selfishness, greed, brutal hierarchies and gang culture We would never attend such a "Park" with that theme and would instead call it "Dystopia-Land". Walt made Disney but God made the Earth. "At the end of the day" expulsion can come if you only want to make good memories for yourself and refuse to be a good guest who respects our need to have collective harmony. 🙏🌎✝
@psychacks2 жыл бұрын
I can see your point, Matthew. However, my rebuttal would be that the behaviors you mention aren't strictly "forbidden." That is: people obviously can (and do) commit them, often knowing them to be transgressive. So they've decided, on some level, that they want to spend their day at Disneyland running the risk of being (or of actually being) kicked out of Disneyland. The privilege of having a ticket implies that we are afforded the freedom of choosing whether we abide by the rules...or not. If we weren't free, the rules would be unnecessary. My argument is not that there are not consequences to breaking the rules, but that people have the freedom to choose whether to follow them or not. The "good/bad" or "right/wrong" overlay is technically unnecessary, and people will still have their "day's worth of memories" regardless of what they choose.
@MCharlerySmith2 жыл бұрын
@@psychacks. Thanks for your reply, Dr Taraban. I disagree that the acts mentioned aren't forbidden because they're like any laws we follow in society. They're forbidden in a moral and social sense, not forbidden because they're impossible to do. I do believe we need a "right" and "wrong" overlay because if we don't reward they good and punish the bad we will have moral relativism and everybody will do what they feel is right in their own eyes. This self-righteous mindset made murder commonplace and was the condition of people before God sent the Flood in Genesis. Whether you believe the Scriptures are that pure a source of truth or not there's no denying that unless we adhere to good moral and social guidelines we will have chaos in every area and neither will we be able to raise our protect our children well.

Our purpose is that we are here to glorify God and we do that through our works and living life to the fullest. So, when you have the urge or idea to do something (good), then you are supposed to do it, and it doesn't matter if it's starting a KZbin channel, doing some gardening, going to Disneyland, having a family or doing a particular job.
@psychacks2 жыл бұрын
I think there's some truth to that: there are many, many ways we can live meaningful and fulfilling lives. And one person isn't necessarily doing it "better" than another as a consequence of what she chooses to do. As in many things, how you do something is more important than what you do.

Nah. If at Disneyland you aren't giving yourself the typical "Disneyland experience", you are setting up yourself for feeling frustrated later. This is because you derive the worth of your overall experience from comparing it to others'. So the same goes for your life experience.
