A resume: The iceberg Methaphor: Freuds likens the mind to an iceberg, where the conscious mind (above water) is only a small part of our mental life. The larger part, the unconscious mind (below water), profoundly influences our behavior without our awareness. * Conscious mind: * Contains thoughts, memories, desires and feelings we are aware of. * Represents everything we are currently thinking about. * Unconscious mind: * Contains repressed thoughts, traumatic memories, and socially unacceptable desires. * These hidden aspects shape our behavior and emotional responses. Freud’s structural model: The mind consists of three parts: Id, Ego and Superego, which interact to shape our personality and behavior. ID * Entirely in the unconscious mind * Present from birth and driven by primal instincts and desires. * Operates on the pleasure principle, seeking intermediate gratification of needs and desires. * Driven by life instincts (Eros) for survival and reproduction, and death instincts (Thanatos) for self-destructive behaviors. EGO * Mediates between the Id and reality * Operates on the Reality Principle, considering the consequences of actions. * Floats between the conscious and unconscious mind. * Uses defense mechanisms like repression to manage the demands of the Id. SUPEREGO * Develops around the age of five * Represents internalized societal standards and moral values * Acts as as judge, enforcing the moral principle. * Creates an ideal self, an unattainable standard leading to feelings of guilt and shame when not meet. Defense Mechanisms:
The ego employs various defense mechanisms to manage the anxiety caused by the conflicting demands of the Id and Superego. One key defense mechanism is repression, where uncomfortable thoughts and desires are pushed into the unconscious. Freudian Slips:
 Sometimes repressed thoughts and desires can surface through slips of the tongue, dreams, or accidental actions. Revealing hidden aspects of our unconscious mind. The interplay between the Id, Ego and Superego illustrates the ongoing struggle within the mind to balance primal desires, reality and moral standards. This understanding can offer insights into the development of personality and the roots of mental illness.

QUESTION: 🧠 So as someone w/ high ACE's score for childhood CPTSD... Does my coping mechanism "inner critic" and "toxic shame"activity take place in SUPER EGO Limbic area of brain? And, does our healthy "reparenting, self compassion" EGO take place in Pre Frontal Cortex/executive, goal oriented area of the brain?

just like you said ID is in our unconscious mind and ego is in between the conscious and unconscious .. but later on by the ending of the video you said ID is thinking about we should go have rest or play with our friends or lets not study.. and superego is telling no! you have an exam tomorrow you have to get an A and with ego in between having a conflict of our own thoughts. li You also said these things slips up a little in our conscious mind but if we are thinking a lot of these things shouldn't these 3 parts of conflicts should come over the conscious mind? i know its a theory which has been proposed a long time ago but its just my thought .. idk if I'll be getting an answer to it but it can be I guess.

Which one is judge between superego and Ego
@PsychExplained
@PsychExplained 7 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t say there is a “judge” between superego and ego, according to Freud. The superego is constantly trying take the high, moral, idealistic road in decision making but that might not be realistic. The ego (you) must decide how to avoid this guilt-trip…

@@PsychExplainedyeah.Much of the crimes against humanity are committed for the love of "god" or higher ideals. I am ego type and adding the fact that my instinct to belong to a group or organization is almost nonexistent super ego people are incredibly confusing,demanding and restricting to be around.Everything has to fit some unknown large social entity,the agenda of some group or the newest mass event.If i speak i am in big trouble being assessed as negative,heavy or a problem.Many years i've conditioned myself to agree to their illussory unatteinable moral standarts.But enough is enough

So morals, ethics and our conscious exist or comprise our super ego. Could that be what religion affects?
@PsychExplained
@PsychExplained 8 ай бұрын
I think you are on to something...Religion often plays a significant role in shaping an individual's moral and ethical beliefs. Religious teachings, doctrines, and practices can contribute to the formation and reinforcement of one's superego. For many people, religious beliefs serve as a framework for understanding right and wrong, providing guidance on how to behave ethically and morally in various situations.

@PsychExplained I'll do you one better. The most consise definition of the "left" and the "right". The left are "ID" driven people, with almost no "Superego". Pleasure principled people. While the "right" are "Superego" driven people. What we are seeing is the battle between American's ID and Superego.
@apocraphontripp4728

@PsychExplained I'll do you one better. The most basic definition of the Left and the Right. The Left are ID driven people, guided only by the pleasure principle. The Left have no Superego and live a nialistic life. The Right are Superego driven people, or people with morals, ethics and discipline. What we are seeing in America is a battle between American's ID and Superego. Both fighting over control of cultural norms. In addition, when there is no God, then by definition, you take that mantle, at least in your life, and we make crappy gods. Niche was right. We need the Ubermensch.

Someone else spot the pattern😅.Those concepts are entirely related to the super ego or social instinct which is hyerarhical.The goal is to make us fit in the established system,to play the social game of who is more,instead of accept us as who we are.
