One thing worth knowing is that most harems in media are not able to be called polycules, since none of the girls have any romantic feelings toward each other. Also, would love to see you watch either the Dogs in Love videos or Jello's Lemonade Review videos.
@RaLiChu Жыл бұрын
Harams also tend to be less about having a well developed romantic story between multiple people and more giving a MC a bunch of trophies to flant.
@willw6504 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, Airier, I wouldn't compare harems to polycules. It's pretty insulting to actual poly individuals. With rare exceptions like this game, media typically does not do a good job portraying poly individuals or relationships.

@elijahpadilla5083 Жыл бұрын
Someone else probably explained this already, but the primary difference maker between a polycule and a harem is basically direction. In a triangular situation, a harem is like a V; two points love the one point, and that one point may also love those two points, but those two individual points don't have a thing for each other. A polycule would be an actual triangle. Every point directly connects to every other point. Or, with four people. A harem is one dot in the middle with three dots around it, with connections to each of those dots, but they don't have connections to each other. A polycule, in that case, is a square with an X through it. Every person is connected to every other person.
@igorzharenikov1812 Жыл бұрын
The only requirement for a polycule is that tree or more people are in a romantic relationship. Polycule is still a polycule if relationships connect only through one person. So the difference between a polycule and a harem lies more in the approach rather than the structure. Polycule is nothing more than a relationship structure, while what is commonly referred to as "harem" is more of a male power fantasy of "all girls around me are into me and are okay with me dating all of them at the same time"

Yeah, this is what the format is for Jello's "Dogs in Love" and "Miles is on Fire/Miles is a Robot" series. I'm pretty sure Jello has gone on record saying that he only does these highlights for games that weren't very good because they ended up making way more improv jokes during those streams, but I think based on what he said at the end of this video that this series was a bit of an exception? There are a few other games they played that probably aren't going to get this highlight treatment because they were actually invested in the games, but the channel andYetNoBananas has made some animatics about some of the moments in those streams that don't have highlight videos. also, if you do do "Dogs in Love", you should definitely do his videos on Making a Sound Type and Ranking the Hottest Pokemon Characters, because those are like isolated highlights from those streams

Harems and polycules are not the same thing. Members of a harem all love one person, but not necessarily each other. In a polycule, all participants love each other equally.

"She's wearing clown shoes" They're not. She's got normal shoes that have metal talons attached to them. And no, a harem is not a polycule. A ploycule is an actual relationship developed between all participating parties. A harem is just a fantasy fulfillment that lacks actual development, where it's all focused around one person because it's mainly catered to single men. What they are asking for is actual effort made where you don't want anyone of the characters to be left out because the game makes you care for them and the relationship.

As someone who watched all of Jello’s playthrough/stream/abridges, yes you should definitely get around to watching Dogs in Love and Dogs in Love 2 because they’re extremely worth it, even if you don’t know much about Pokémon. And if you still want more after that, you should check out his videos for Ace Attorney Investigations and Investigations II called “Miles is on Fire” (First Investigation Game) and “Miles is a Robot” (Investigations II). They’re a little longer than Dogs in Love or Sky Pirate Girlfriends, but they’re separated into different parts by Jello himself, so it should be easier to watch in bursts.

Play Skies of Arcadia. Doesn't matter if it's privately on your own time or doing it for your audience, just play Skies of Arcadia. Don't just put it in your backlog, put it at the top of your backlog. The game is full of sincere charm and an unbridled sense of adventure. The characters are incredibly expressive and lovable (or hateable in the case of those meant to be detestable), oozing personality. It's like reading that one book that you love even when you're not a big reader otherwise. It possesses the whimsy and freedom of a child's drawing but as if it were painted by a master traditional artist in their prime. And not in the sense of a modern artist putting more effort into being subversive than into making good art, but the kind of artist that makes works that can speak to any type of person, unifying vast expanses instead of burning bridges. It's a truly special game that has aged wonderfully while still being criminally left behind by the gaming market. Talk to whatever friends or acquaintances you can about finding a way you're comfortable with getting to play the game. Play Skies of Arcadia. But, yeah, I'm not joking, it's a fun and neat game.

Yeah, Dogs in Love is this but done for Pokemon Colosseum, and the follow-up video covers the first half of its sequel, Pokemon XD: Gales of Darkness. Sadly they never did a video for the second half, though I'm pretty sure they did play through the game on their streams. They said it'd be coming, but then released this vid instead, so who knows.

The second XD video will arrive eventually probably but Jello usually is working on so many projects at once (these vids, One piece book club on patreon though that's just finished streams, epithet erased content and a bunch more) that it takes a long time for them to be finished. As far as I know, the difference between a harem and a polycule is that a harem is one guy with a bunch of girls who love him but don't also love each other. And a polycule is just three or more people who all mutually love each other, or love different people in different combinations but its not like only one person is the one being loved. Also harems tend to be often treated as only ever a dude with a lot of wives, with it being called a reverse harem if its a girl with many husbands. And there's a bunch of difference between the actual historical concept of harems in other cultures, and the fandom concept started by anime, aaaand the western idea of arabic harems as misinterpreted in a lot of racist fetishizey romance novels of the 1900s. Polycule is just a universal term that can be used for any gender or any amount of people, and has no negative stereotypes or fandom baggage. And throuple is just a funny way to say it, so some people prefer it, but cos its only for groups of three thats why we also have the word polycule, haha
@Bunni8910 ай бұрын
So the relationship in the game is definitely a polycule not a harem and that's why people are so pleasantly surprised about it. It's not uncommon to find a game that has all the female party members love the protag, but it's refreshing to have them also in love with each other and everyone is just fine with being together instead of a cliche cat fight love triangle sorta thing.
