Just think of it as entertainment. Some will see this as truly telling, some will see it as a passing curiosity, and some will just be interested in how these sorts of people approach such a pivotal moment. Regardless, the editing and writing in no way added or detracted much legitimacy to these practices as far as I could tell. The witches and readers were allowed to express themselves, and how we interpret their work is up to us. Personally, I just find this sort of metaphysical occultism/arcana to be fascinating and aesthetically pleasing.
