A lot of people seem to be dunking on the DM as a Doormat or in this case, -was- a Doormat. They still did the right thing in the end and almost certainly learned from this experience. Not every DM is going to be able to stand up to someone verbally bludgeoning you into submission (Especially vocal people can be hard to shut down too) initially and it is more or less a rite of passage for DMs to learn to say 'No'. Dave got his comeuppance, the group is now happy. Good end achieved for all...except Dave of the Ditch.

I actually really appreciate my players offering ideas. One player wanted their character to revolve around rapping (retroverse setting) so I designed some rapper rivals for him. Another character wanted to be a part of the gang I had developed as possible allies or enemies depending on the party's actions and a player wanted to be from that gang. I honestly love grounding the party into the world and I appreciate their interest as long as they're not trying to dominate it.
@Broeckchen Жыл бұрын
Whenever another player tells you: "I could kill your character!" The correct response is feigned surprise and going: "Yeah... you could. But why would you do that? Do you not want me to enjoy playing with you? Because that would really hurt me and kind of stall the whole group, wouldn't it." It directly calls out the motivation behind the action and the threat and shifts their position from "I'm trying to overpower your toy with my toy" to "I'm being a mean person". This is much easier for the group to object to at large. The impulse in such situations is typically to bristle and put up a wall to show no weakness. But you'd be surprised how much more effective it can be, in group settings especially, to admit to vulnerability. It tends to come off as much more mature and reminds everyone of the human being behind the character.

BECAUSE they're greedy lil' loot goblins. They're ALWAYS chasing the bag... If there's treasure to be found then dammit they want it. You know why stories of dragons are filled full of treasure hordes? BECAUSE THEY'RE GREEDY. Secondly, you can't say I'm greedy for gold and spent all the money. That's like saying you drowned in a desert, numbskull. If I'm greedy the one thing I probably bought was meaningful because I want shit to last. I'm not gonna waste the shit I have BECAUSE I'M GREEDY. Darrell Willis true there are very fun and creative characters in TV shows and comics however I'd say it's more about the media your looking too. If I was playing Monsters and Masterminds than creating a blind character is fine since it's a superhero game so you can get a power to overcome blindness. But dnd doesn't have this, while there is the occasional exception like blind fighting style, it honestly becomes a more a burden for the other players to deal with. Also I'd like to point out that Toph and daredevil while they can not physically see they can still see so it just makes them being blind redundant for most the series. Like only 1 time was toph punished for being blind and that's in the desert. I don't have much info on daredevil but he can see with ease due to echolocation, so I don't see him ever being overall punished for him being blind.
@kingwildcat6192000 Жыл бұрын
PixelPuncher so here's the thing, your creative "flare" was "so my character is blind BUT can see with magic." What's the point in being blind? It sounds more like your trying to justify having truesight or tremor sense. Secondly rarely are handicap characters ever fun to play with as it becomes generally becomes a spotlight hog and or burden. This is ignoring that fact in most dnd settings, regardless of the fact there's Magic (what I mean is most settings do not have magic hover chairs,) there is the fact bring a disabled character along breaks most people's immersion. "So your telling me that the guy in a wheelchair killed an ancient red dragon," or "your saying that, that blind man is a powerful wizard that can stop nuke the country?" This is also ignoring the fact that when being an adventurer there is countless types of Magic that can heal any handicapped characters. At level 3 (maybe 5, been a bit since I last played 5e) you can cure blindness and at higher levels you can cure someone that is paralyzed with regeneration or other various healing magic.

Essentially it's a way to get your players into the world building stuff alongside you. The gist of it is when the party needs some insider information, a special weapon forged, or something along those lines at the GM can't just throw into the game without it being obvious, the player can slightly retcon some NPC into their own backstory. They can only do this so many times, I usually cap it off at 1 use per story arc and once per person, but it's a good way to get people involved!

Is they walking to town their instantly the leader of the town. They walk into town. They're instantly the leader of the town. They go see the king he takes off his crown and gives it to him. They think about trying to cure a disease or ending hunger among the populace boom instantly solved their horse can fart out cheeseburgers that cure people. Of disease for eternity. They wanna win? so I looked up a tarrasque and holy moly is it a beast of a monster and that magic item mentioned it too strong for early game if it can one hit that.

I kinda wanna have my big-bad (an artificer lich who creates golums and constructs to try and destroy the kingdom) show off his magnum opus by having it one shot a tarrasque by slicing it in half

@@ErrorNamenotfound-mx7bv, writes _"No real weak spots to abuse."_ That you know of... but a princess I know got hold of the plans and with the help of an apprentice monk and a rouge got them to me and I was able to find an exploitable weak spot...

@@AtelierGodWhy bother? They aren't even connected or related to each other continuity-wise. And Operation Overdrive, just like Mystic Force, is napalm-shit slurry.

@@Center-For-I.E.D.Mismanagement incorrect, the legacy of power episode just a few seasons prior was all about how each season exist in the same continuity the only one that doesn’t is RPM, even in Operation Overdrive there’s an set of episodes all about how 5 rangers from different seasons are temporarily recruited further proving your lack of knowledge about the series.
@Center-For-I.E.D.Mismanagement Жыл бұрын
@@AtelierGod Oh no, I was wrong about a power rangers series that was so bad it nearly killed the entire franchise harder than Turbo. The fact you care enough to correct me on something so damned irrelevant, says more about you than me. Also, I don't care. Operation Overdrive is total shit.

I thought I was having deja vu, but it turned out it was another channel that does the same thing that also covered this story, what threw me was they did the same bri'ish bloke voice. Also I think that dave didn't care about op one way or another UNTIL op didn't agree with his gomode magic item. Also when Dave said he spoke to the DM about the abilities of his Tonfa, the actual talk .probably went as such. "Can blunt weapons have such and such abilities?" "Yeah those abilities are able to be applied." "K' Bye." Then when he gets the weapon, he applies all of them and acts like the DM said he could have them all when the question was probably framed as asking if a list of abilities were compatible with a blunt weapon.
