Seriously. I know guys, amd gals, that were red pillers and incels/femcels, a couple it even lasted into theor 30s. I felt bad for then because after they got the help amd support they needed to see the light and make real changes they lost all their old friends. The ones that didn't leave them, they had to cut out of their life because they couldn't be happy that their friend was now happy and would berate amd harass them, trying to drag them back down. Because misery loves company. They also got block and banned from all the groups, sites, and forums related to that stuff once they got out that they got better. (Which they saw coming because they saw it happen all the time when they were still downing the pills like candy.) I also have an ex thay was a m'lady weeb. Like wears a trench coat, fedora/Trilby, claims he lives by a code of honor type dude. This was before I met him amd he was in his teens and early 20s, but I always tell him it's good he got better. Becauae sometimes when he see how bad a lot of those people get, he cringes because he could see in an alt universe where he stayed on that track and became a miserable pos. He's can be a bit of an a-hole lol, but he's genuinely a good guy and super caring and supportive. We broke up like what? 6 yrs or so ago now and he's still one of my best friends. Even though we live in different states now. Change can be good and more people need to embrace it. And it's okay to look back and cringe, but just remember the progress you chose to make.

As much as I commend the badassery of Film Club girl, I’ll also point out the non-confrontational victims in these stories that Drake is comparing her to are likely exhibiting a “freeze” response to conflict, a behavior common in people who have experienced trauma. While Film Club girl’s direct response is something to look towards as an ideal, I wouldn’t say that the other victims are always at fault for their relative timidness. If you see someone freezing up in the face of bullshit, do the Chad thing and stand up for them. They might not be able to help themselves in that moment

I can be cringe sometimes but trouble player was so self unaware, that I once informed npc he was traitor in front of him, NPC kept on talking how the awesome weapon they were forging must be a trustworthy one, just like he must be a trustworthy party memeber, and he was surprised it was cursed, not even bad cursed, he could drop the weapon, it just was almost useless. I thought he had to be role playing when others pointed out no that how he is. There was the time he thought me wanting to start with a black pearl was absurd and did not fit the themes while he had pepperbox. Guy thought a muti shot expensive fire arm fit fantasy better than starting with a magic item. He is the DM and goes the extra mile to make sure I don’t get preferential treatment. (Had 2 REAL big monsters attacking my monk that was stuck between them, for instance). We have, now, a really special group. None of us like drama, we're all introverts and getting SIGNIFICANTLY better at RP, and have started a second campaign with my husband as the DM. I do agree with not generally keeping your expensive stuff at someone else's house, though. I hope the OP recovers from their awful experience, but it doesn’t always end poorly.

In my group, in the game that I don't run, the DM is married to another player. The husband in the 2nd story was just as bad as the wife. He seems to think that being married means you have to be a complete pushover and accept all the bad behavior of your spouse. How could you be married to someone and not have the communication skills to resolve such a simple situation? "It's someone else's property honey, you obviously can't keep it, don't be silly." If your wife gets mad and kicks you out for that, than you made a mistake and should have went common law.

Abusers come in all genders. The wife in the second story definitely is used to using people like doormats. And the OP does have a point when it comes to married couples playing together; sometimes they have a toxic relationship and that dynamic can spill over into your own life in a negative way.

That being said it's not like there isn't precedence for Couples becoming a problem at the table, I recall one story where Dm's girlfriend placed a slave collar on the op. She said yes and within 5 minutes, I sicked a displacer beast on her. The bard looked out the window and went back to sleep and the cleric.. well, the less I say about her, the better. It took a npc and our arcane trickster to start fighting before the bard and cleric were like "fine. We're coming." My wife just looked at me and I shrugged "I did warn you" and now she has an unbridled hatred for Displacer Beasts. Fun story from my 3.5e days: I remember buying those blind box minis in the early-mid 2000's. Even then they were 16$ a box, coming out to about 20$ after taxes and such. I used to buy them as often as I could manage with whatever money I could come up with. Either that or YGO cards. I was also involved in a 3.5e game at the time and we were needing wolves and werewolves and such. So I was buying "The Dark Below" boxes and got the exact "Werewolf Lord" mini we were hoping for. like a week after I popped that mini, the game broke up due to the couple having some issues. Not a married couple, mind you, but yeah. I still have that Werewolf Lord Mini. I sold the rest to the same guy who was hosting the first game. Then, several years later, in one of my last games I was playing in, another 3.5e game, hosted by another couple, married, also got broken up by marital issues. So I can kinda see where OP might be coming from, but I don't agree with it either. Both of those games, oddly enough, were the case of one spouse is the DM and the other is a player, but I don't recall any unfair treatment or anything like that.

Did the DM just forget that he can say ”No, your not doing that” in the first story? Ok second story, I’ve played D&D with a family (Younger sister being DM, the Parents, the brother, and brother in law also the guy who invited me and my best friend). One of our DMs does give a favoritism towards her wife (Powerful NPC only her character talks to, big connections to the entire world, etc), but it's the sort of favoritism that's going to result in WAY more pain and suffering for her character down the road. Which I for one am here for.

lol special treatment. my partner is a player in my games and I have to say - it's probably good that I cook most of our meals cuz she'd probably have poisoned me by now after all the shit I've put her characters through haha

One thing about DMing: Dont have your sibling be a player if you DM either. My brother constantly tramples on my DMing and gets pissy when he cant do whateverr he wants (hes showing psychopathy in my games sometimes).

Just finished the video and agree with how weird OP's "never play with married couples unless they're both players or dm and co-dm" is. I haven't had the pleasure of playing a lot of d&d due to multiple reasons (scheduling being the biggest), but a few of the games I've played were with my long time boyfriend. Never once did it feel like he was playing favoritism. He always tries to be fair, unless he thinks the consequences of a tiny action of ours would be astronomically disproportionate to what any reasonable person would come up with... Leading into some pretty wtf, unintentionally funny moments on his end, which always tend to be fun. We have fun, no one gets the extra op weapons or special treatment unless by law of his nature, it's chaotic (and it's glorious).

I currently play in a group where my friend is the DM and his fiancée is a fellow player. We’ve had no issues, if only that we, as a group, sidetrack each other with random bullshit and jokes 😂😂

As someone whose GF is a player, I feel like I do the opposite, and usually on accident. I can't tell you how many time I've had goblin ambushes start by either attacking her character (she likes to lead) or by rolling to determing who gets targeted and it ends up being her. It's hilarious, and we all get a good laugh out of it

its stories like these that make me think if their dm is a robot. don't know how the person with the power to stop all, do all, make anything the rule or make something not a rule, just sits there while 3/4 of their players talk about how they are upset with 1/4 of the players. infact, dm almost was helping the gamer guy.

I don’t usually comment on videos but just wanted to add my two cents about couples playing fairly. I often dm with my husband as a player. Sometimes my husband helps me with encounter ideas, but I always add in twists and surprises that catch him off guard to even the playing field with the other party members. He also makes a point of taking a back seat if he feels he knows too much so the other players have a chance to figure things out (like if he played a piece of a module before, he would stay in the back and play minimally with his character until the group catches up to the point that things are new to him as well). My husband and I both agree it’s absolutely no fun being biased or fudging rolls; everyone should get a turn to mess with others, be messed with, have successes, and be the butt of the joke so everyone in the group is entertained. We also have no problem giving each other corrective feedback or criticism in the games because healthy relationships are built on being able to be honest and open with each other about issues and feelings (which the couple in the story fail at). So, please, those of you who think couples can’t be unbiased, rest assured they absolutely can. A couple with a healthy relationship and respect for each other, the other players, and the game should be able to play fairly with with anyone no matter the roles. I’m sorry for those who experienced otherwise, and I hope you find games with more mindful players/dms (couples or no) if you haven’t already. 😊 (My husband and I love your videos, Drake! You’re our favorite rpg horror story channel!)

If I had been the DM to that first story, when Gamer Club Guy says he [does the thing Drake doesn't want to mention] I would have snatched that guy's character sheet. When asked "What the hell?" I would have then said, "The moment your character became a r*pist, he becomes a monster... The DM controls the monsters. Now get out!"

The second story is basically simp max out to door mat settings because you gotta lose a spin in order to be ok with your wife stealing crap. Reminds me of a AITA story where op was the husband to a stealer only he has the spine to leave her.

Ireally enjoyed this style! Pretty good and nice story content that’s easily rich and less of a slog. Honestly I’m tempted to write my own one of these, not for clout, but because my first dms experience was a dump. But… my memory is sorta shise after it being a year since the dnd session. There was faults on 3 of the 4 fronts, but the DM was of the worst (yeah I had a fault too).

My wife DMs one of the games I'm in. 1: I do not take the forefront of RP, my dumb as rock Barbarian with a cursed axe is geared towards combat. 2: I have come closer to death more than anyone except for a "That guy" early on in the campaign who did die for being stupid. The key is to not treat each other as husband and wife during the game, specifically since it's supposed to be for everyone's enjoyment and not just my own.

The last story really gets me... My husband DMs games for a group all the time. I go out of my way to make sure that our relationship never results in special treatment in game. But it can be hard to find players sometimes because of stories like that. :( Makes me really sad because he loves Dming and I fee like im just making it harder for him. He wont hear of playing without me though. ^-^

I am in a couple and I was over worried myself into the idea of doing favoritism with my SO. but after my players telling me I was in fact not giving her enought I simply realise that I was wrong and correct that. My campane is over 1 y's old and we all have fun every week. SO included. So yes, even young couple ca be on bolt side of the DM screen.

My main playgroup has a husband and wife duo. They're great friends and he is one of our two main DM's, with me being the other. I have never, over the years, seen any legitimate favoritism payed toward his wife. That being said, I know full well this is anecdotal. I just don't think people should assume the worst.

I'll agree every time someone says it's RISKIER (not bad) when a couple has one as dm and the other as a player, and it makes the story more immersive if the couple has both players in the game. Both working as dm also sounds wholesome as hell like "no dear, you're being too harsh on them, he meant well" 😂 Lastly, imagine playing d&d with your wife and some neckbeard doesn't stop hitting on her in game until it escalates to him getting the dm to let them play a private round and level up so they come back next round with Lord Edgesword and just ice you right in front of her only for her character to scream trying to put your guts and stuff back where they go as guards take him away for murder and your wife's character has to relive the trauma and point at the guy who killed you, meanwhile lord edgesword is ignoring his exasperated lawyer and is speaking to her like "I freed you from his mind-control spell, that ring is enchanted" and he's STILL trying to cast charm/ seduction on her lmao This whole scenario is fake, but it feels like this had to have happened somewhere over all of the decades this game has been out 😅 thanks to anyone who read this, I had fun visualizing it, sorry to anyone who ever had to deal with this kind of thing

A blanket ban on playing with married couples (even if they are on opposite sides of the DM Screen) is just silly. Some couple will be a problem, but most won't and if they are a couple you just deal with it or find a new game. You might as well ban friends playing together if one of them is the DM. That said, playing with a new couple is almost ban worthy -- when two people first get together and their relationship still has that new-relationship stank they're almost always going to be more interested in each other than in the game much to the detriment of the game (there is almost a 100% guarantee that they will try to have their characters "get together"). Once they have been together long enough that it's not awkward being the third-wheel with them, then it's fine. Pro Tip: If you're in a game and get a new S.O. -- take a leave of absence from the game while you get past the infatuation phase of your new relationship. Once you're comfortable being away from them long enough to play a whole session (and then some) then return to the table, but not before. If you can't go a whole session without texting them or they texting you, you've gone back too early.

I despise people like Gruntilda, fucking kleptos. Need to bring back that hand lopping punishment... Also if you leave your shit at another person's house, do not be surprised when you find things missing. Especially if someone is a klepto. It's moronic, just keep a dedicated bag for your stuff so you can take it with you with zero prep and leave with all of it post sessions. The problem was self correcting from the start. Grab a damn backpack, OP.
