Great subject. I 100% stand with Dr. Honda here, lies destroy society. The problem with truth though is that some times it seems to have become so rare that many will think you lie when you don't. Also most narratives we live by are just that, narratives, which when taken apart may show the emptiness of the "truths" we believe in.

Dr. Kirk I appreciate your opinion and was part of a 'authenticity /radical honesty' circles for a long time when I was younger in my early 20s and it was BRUTAL to un-do the protective mechanisms to become completely honest. HOWEVER. I would have appreciated some perspective/nuance that includes 'masking' that's a mechanism that people with ADHD , Autism Spectrum & other neurodiversities.. specially women have to go through to SURVIVE the workplace and being in a world that's so hostile to neurodivergence. Now should society as a whole become better at accepting different ways of working and functioning primarily? YES and that'd be the best solution. But until then.. the 'yes the assignment is done and will send to you in the morning' is something I totally can see as a masking mechanism that Burto might have developed or people in general might do to survive the harsh unforgiving 'normie' non-neurodivergent friendly workplaces and avoid being labelled 'flakey' or 'untrustworthy'. Thanks for a great episode Burto and Dr. Kirk

I was just thinking that if society was modeled after neurodivergent honesty, then the world would be a better place. If we tell ‘white lies’ it’s about things that are not actually important in the grand scheme of things (paperwork) but we are honest and virtuous with things that truly matter like how we are feeling or things that impact the ones we love or virtuous morals (like fairness which Berto touched on)

This title feels a bit like a personal attack, lol. Promise I'll never lie to you, Dr. Honda!

Don't lie to me either, or anyone esle for that matter..! I truly believe Dr. Honda is right when he says it destroys democracy. We are surrounded by lies in the media. Then what's the point of media? Should we all go around and believe lies? It's so easy to manipulate peoples perception of things.

As a person who’s been punished, not soothed/ rewarded by telling the truth…yea I’m pro lying in certain contexts. The conversation needs lots of nuance. I’m with Berto. I’m not interested in radical honesty. Sounds like tactless ahole to me

I might go around a question not openly if I might hurt u, do I look fat ? As long as your like it, I'd say.. But I can't ghost a person, I'd hate to lie to cheat, think of the other person. I've had someone ghost never gave me closure. And that really hurt me more than him, say I'm done with this. But ghosting is just normal now

Do you have an audible promo/referral code? I’m thinking of getting it and could have sworn they sponsored you one time.

Wait I’m confused! Are you saying cigarettes don’t cause cancer? Or is the “cigarettes don’t cause cancer” an assumption from the voice of a person who doesn’t believe scientists?
@damnjessieh_

There have been scientists who worked for tabacco companies saying cigaretts don't cause cancer. So it's an example for bought studies that are lies.

I think filters are lies. The ones that look realistic anyway. If its a filter to give you cat ears or something obviously silly im fine with that.

I dont think theres anything wrong (in cases where you arent cheating someone out of a payment) to use cheats in video games. I have problems with coordination and literally couldnt enjoy games without them. For example my son fights my hard boss fights.

I don’t think that’s people lying. I think that’s people expressing themselves through clothes and cosmetics.

Unless they look you in the eye and say they are not wearing makeup they are not lying. It's absolutely wild to think that's even slightly dishonest otherwise.
