Despite being a hardass, Hollis is lenient because she made the exact same mistake as Raz prior to joining the Psychonauts. Only, unlike Raz, she was unable to set the person right again when things got out of hand and they went crazy from her tampering. Sasha, too, has a similar experience where he probed his father's mind without permission and saw stuff he shouldn't have.

Those that are hardasses on Raz are moreso that way for their own reason to help him. Kinda like how he reminds them most of themselves as Psychic Cadets that didn't know the lines between ethics and power. Perhaps even the other couselours fits into that mold.

I always will feel bad for Raz in this cutscene. but newfound respect for Sasha here, too. By his tone, he made it clear that was Raz did was wrong, very wrong as a Psychonaut, and he is disappointed in him, and he believes further corrective action should have been taken. But when he gave him the Smelling Salts, by his tone of voice and the words used, I feel like he wasn't scolding Raz anymore for being a nosy person, but now acknowledging that is a curious child testing the boundaries of the human mind and the potential of his powers. Now he knows the damage that can be done by tampering with a persons mind, and he has a way out if he considers going out of bounds again.

I Love this scene it shows the student/ mentor relationship these 2 have.

Totally. I love it when these two are together

Pretty much as Sasha trained Raz the most back in the first game. And Sasha saw a lot of potential within Raz back in camp.

I just want to take this moment to point out 2 things. 1. The Psi-portal that Raz uses, he snatched from Sasha's lab back in Psychonauts 1, and never returned. 2. The Smelling Salts are given to Raz in the mental world, yet it carries through into the real world.

And in the original _Psychonauts_ Maloof gave him some Smelling Salts-is Raz still in possession of them?
@frankmills6226 Жыл бұрын
My theory is he had someone put real smelling salts in Raz's hands or pocket while he and Raz were in the mental world to demonstrate how you can violate a person's boundaries while trying to help them.

Am I the only one who sees the irony in his mention of avoiding "doing any harm" coming from the guying who is standing on top of a brain while holding a lit cigarette? Yeesh, put out that thing. His point to Raz is valid, but smoking does some really nasty things to the mind.
@HonestMagpie Жыл бұрын
I have a theory that it's a mental cigarette, something he uses as a grounding tool, not something that actually "exists" in another's mind.
@techclass1896 Жыл бұрын
@@HonestMagpie I wish all of his cigarettes were "mental" as opposed to disgusting cancer sticks. It might explain why no character has shown a reaction to them (chances are someone would have an allergy, asthma or just be repulsed by the smell), but the fact that he tries to not actively smoke around Raz (he holds the cigarette in his hand) suggests otherwise. He doesn't show the same restraint around adult characters. If it was a tool that was purely mental (as opposed to physical), it seems like he could explain this to his pupils.

I believe Otto Mentallis is shown smoking a psitanium cigar in some concept art, so it might be that!

If this were animated, I can see Raz having tears in his eyes after Sasha's little mini-rant to Raz about bending Hollis's mind.

People are calling the cigarette psychic-only. I thought so too until he’s smoking in the nerve center at the end of the game
