Hyper sensitivity to sense overload Cassie - disassociation (possible D.I.D.). Trauma enduced identity crisis Bob - alcoholism as a means to bury memories. Post traumatic stress. I interpreted Bob's level as him isolating himself from everyone he holds dear and being afraid of making new bonds because he's been hurt so many times. It's why he asks Raz to stay at the beginning of the level because that small amount of human contact was enough for him to so dearly miss it, but he's still too afraid to actively seek out his lost friends himself.
@merlin_merlot3 жыл бұрын
the levels usually have multiple psychological themes being represented. bob "bottles" things up, and isolates himself, mentally and physically, from his guilt, problems, and trauma. The moth, and a lot of the level, represents his coping mechanism of escapism; the overwhelming ocean of issues he has to wade through is too much, so he turns to alcohol. The quiet peacefulness of the outside ocean and island compared to the turbulent lives of the bottles helps showcase the contrast. Inherently, the ending of the level is about getting better one step at a time; the golden seeds in the sea may look overwhelming, but eventually you'll have your garden. One plant, then the next. There's a couple of side things as well; the generational cycle of addiction, the feelings of ineptitude for the people he cares about (that one otto convo you can get in his brain were essentially bob is projecting onto the psychic six that they only care about him because he's a 'package deal with helmut'), and while I haven't entirely figured out the symbolism yet I think there's something to be said about there being stained glass windows of plants in each ending area of the bottle. While I love helmut's level, I really enjoy bob's for how intricate it is. the metaphors are incredibly clever.

This is it, this is the way to have gay representation. Psychonauts does this so perfectly, and I don’t think once do they say the word gay. They don’t make a big deal out of it, their a couple and that’s just part of the focus of their story. Hollywood butchers characters and slaps “gay” atop of it like that cleans them of creating a boring, bland and sometimes annoying character. These two though? Bobby and Helmut? They work perfectly, because it’s not their defining trait, and they don’t even make a big show of it. Sure you can say the wedding is a show but it’s more so a focus on Bobby’s pain than going “LOOK AT OUR GAYS”. This is the way to do it, not treated as something different, but just as normal as it should be.

so much of this game made me feel things in such a deep way. psy1 is clever and deep and psy2 is exponentially so. bob is so much rolled into a single character between being an alcoholic, disturbed by the loss of the one person he felt understood him, burdened by the expectations of his family and how it affects the rest of his personal relationships, anger issues that can even become violent... even when you explore the ocean a bit and see his own versions of his friends and family telling him that they 'had to' like him because he was romantically involved with Helmut. that real fear that youre inferior to everyone youre close with and that they're just putting on appearances. then theres that moment where he tries to stop you from leaving the island even though he barely paid much attention to you in the first place... it's somethin real.

Part of the brilliance is the way the vines let you into his mental world, especially when they turn Bob around right before Raz jumps in. Either the vines are sentient enough that they're staging an intervention to help Bob or it's Bob's Herbaphony subconsciously begging for help from Raz despite his outward reaction. That and I love when you explore other minds of the Psychic Six to see their perceptions of the others. Helmut seems confident in everyone else and has a positive outlook. Cassie feels like the others didn't listen to her concerns (Otto's tinkering with the Astralathe, using Lucy's hydrokinesis for Psitantium mining, etc.), Compton feeling like he was responsible for everything falling apart and, like you said, Bob feeling lonely because he felt like he was only accepted due to his relationship with Helmut.

As mentioned by others, it was undoubtedly a private unofficial ceremony - indeed, both versions of it we see (here in Bob's level and the figment diorama of it tucked under the stage in Helmut's level) don't have anyone there except the other members of the Psychic 7. More to the point, however, as Augustus says during the post-game: "Psychics understand each other." As all the Psychic 7 were delving deep into each others' minds, opening vaults and pushing the limits of their psychic talents, they all grew quite close to each other. @@laok well I mean to be fair we don't hear Truman "arguing" with Bob in the 2nd bottle plus I think it does have to do with his depression put yourself in his well sock you just got married to a man you love, go to war he's assumed dead after said war it would kind of be painful to think of your dead partner

All gay representation is valid representation, that a more sutile representation makes you feel more comfortable doesn't mean that all the media sould represent gays in a certain way The escene is lovely it's just the comments saying "this is how gay should be presented"

I havent played this game nor the og (doing a big spoilage on myself rn lmao) but the portrayal of non-normal characters is done best like this. Theyre not mentioned for the sake of mentioning, not talked about for the sake of gossiping, and theyre displayed by the character himself. And when it is displayed, its not obnoxious nor exaggerated. Its not shooting fireworks for itself. Its just them being them.

Im ok with the graphic violence, foul language, toxic online gaming communities, etc.. but teaching children THIS is crossing the line. My kid will not be playing THIS game. Stick to call of duty wholesome real American values.
@AlliedMastercomputer19673 жыл бұрын
Apparently, having a gay relationship is worse than Toxic gaming communities? What kind of idiot do you have to be to think that fans that who will try to rip out anyone’s throats (and themselves) for not doing this thing or running this build and could bully someone to suicide (look up Steven Universe Attempted Suicide controversy) is a lesser evil than a harmless gay couple. Look, I love America and I’m a Christian but for the Love of the Lord, stop being such an idiot.
