I hope this gets pinned, I've unnfortunately run into a really bad problem with psychonauts on AMD hardware. This is not a problem with the game, it's that some graphics cards can't decide whether or not things are real before becoming a problem. With that said, You'll need to go into AMD's Radeon/graphics settings and turn off some of the "enhancnements" that break a game that literally worked on a dog shit school computer with no problems. Thank you radeon for taking a near 20 year old game and ruining it for no reason.

I've heard that this can happen to other older games, but I had no idea it affected Psychonauts as well. I'm pretty sure it occurs when you have a higher-tier graphics card, but I could be wrong and it's just another software issue.

@@Goofy4YT more specifically it's how Radeon "enhances" psychonauts that breaks it the solution being to turn it the hell off

I think most of the hype behind the milk man level is just how crazy and different it is. Good video!

Wouldn't say it's the greatest, but there is *so* much to it that was done with clear effort, love, imagination and general attention that makes it work. As a 3D platformer it doesn't dive very deep into stuff like supertechnical difficult challenges and new ways of using one's movement like, for example, Pseudoregalia, Corn Kidz 64 and Demon Turf. But what it does it does quite well on the gameplay. It's a complete package where the story, art direction, humor, world, characters and all the details you can discover on new playthroughs have stuck the most in people's minds.

I've only played demon turf but I get what you mean. Psychonauts for me just works really well because it's all around a really good game. Having really expansive and advanced mechanics is great but it's not really worth anything if something like the story is dogwater.

@@Goofy4YT that's exactly it! "All around a really good game". Just a good all-round package with a *lot* of extra love, effort and imagination that has gone into the world, humor and characters. Psychonauts 2 fortunately stuck the landing very well, which I and many oth Psychonauts fans are glad (and relieved) about. Aaah, I hear that you're a big fan of stories in games, then! Many would disagree, i reckon, though with various points of nuance. I'm largely the same way-- i find a lot of value in the story within games, but there are some where the story is more "servicable" to get the action going. Like for example The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile. That game lives and dies on its fast-paced gameplay. I guess in a similar vein, Ninja Gaiden too. The stories in that series are generally seen as... quite nonsensical, to my knowledge, but many people find themselves loving the gameplay once they have the hang of it. That said, both in these games have something that the game can show *through* it's story: style and charm. The larger story can be whatever, but the characters themselves can still, in a positive way, be memorable. But even still, i'd prefer for these characters to be in a good story too. It can be "done before", or cliché, or whatever name it may have-- as long as the execution of it is still fine. Fairly big comment of my end, hope it was an interesting read through, and if there's stuff you may disagree with, so be it. Bottom line is that Psychonauts is a really good time that still brings a smile, we are fortunate to have more, and mayhaps there will be more in the future too. I'd be looking forward to it. Oh, and if i may ask: Have you heard of Kya: Dark Lineage? It's a kind of 3D platformer adventure game that only came out on PS2. Art direction like the original Rayman and does a bunch of different things throughout gameplay: Running, jumping and climbing, but also board sliding, wind gliding, skydiving and animal riding, plus a surprisingly in-depth combat system. It's not just combos, but stuff like enemies learning how often you use particular attacks and will block accordingly, so you have to mix up your moves or bypass their defenses (using different moves, quick attacks when they wind up, grabbing them, jumping over or on top of them, using them as a flail, etc.) Aqcuiring new moves is done by buying new bracelets that give combat moves-- kinda like buying weapons in Ratchet and Clank, but martial arts instead. And new bracelets are unlocked in the shops by "collecting" the main enemies. Only other 3D platformer instance that I can think of where the enemies are collectables would be Ape Escape. I very much love it, warts and all, though in terms of story there was potential for more that it doesn't quite live up to. Alright story as is, though.
