She should have been hung like the rest. Screaming at victims in court that they should tell the truth, a judge should have put a gag in her mouth. I think they needed to be tortured by the kgb before being hung.i just love the excuse they all had, it was in the line of duty. Mengele died at an old age in a resort, at least he drowned.

She deserved no compassion. In all honest, I bet they let her go for financial reasons and called it compassionate release. That’s what they normally do. They have to pay for medical expenses of prisoners and if they are really sick or terminal, some get let out because it’s too expensive pay for their treatment. Since they are going to die anyway, they let them go and die rather than pay for treatment to extend their life. She deserved NO compassion she deserved to die alone in prison if not be executed.

Growing up, our next door neighbor stomped a cat to death in the road behind our house. He was my elementary school principal. I didn’t witness this but was told by a neighbor who saw him do it. We are seeing that people who harbor these beliefs deep in their core are just waiting for a time when they feel protected and embolden to act on their disturbed views of humanity & their prejudices. Years ago a university survey showed that 60% of Americans said they'd commit murder if they knew they cd get away with it. I wonder what that number wd be today. Mankind is going backwards to a more barbaric state. Women at one time were the bastions of all things proper & now were inundated with deadly racist Karen.

I've been to Majdanek and, even from the moment of getting on the bus to go there, the whole experience was unearthly in a uniquely unsettling way. The area is quite built up, so having houses backing on to what was a death camp just feels a hundred types of wrong, but what I remember most is the number of ravens there, watching the visitors and, just for the briefest moment, a stench of burning flesh. I'm glad I went, and experienced it for myself, but I have no desire to return.

And yet even the Nazis, in their own time - believe it or not - were outdone in the cruelty dept. by the Imperial Japanese Army. If you can stomach it, look up 'Unit 731' and the Seige of Nanjing , which among the many "activities" included (yes, really) _Massacre Contests._ It beggars belief. One of the greatest, kindest people I've ever known is native Japanese born only ~20 years after the war. To think.... if he'd only been born a generation earlier he could have been raised to be a suicidal kamikaze or atrocious soldier instead of becoming a pilot for JAL, and the great human being he is today.

When things get bad and it becomes your normal to be desperate. You will desperately do anything to continue to keep your situation better than anyone else's. You may not think it but the possibility of evil is within all of us. Imagine what you could do to someone who threatened to kill your child. Then imagine being told constantly That a group of people was planning to. It is so easy to create a cohesed group of people. For the wrong reasons can equal some terrible outcomes. As a British soldier of 16yrs one thing I can tell you is that it takes hardly any time to change young men's minds and control how they think. Experienced and seen it first hand.

A person's reaction to the fear of an immediate danger is not the same as a lack of empathy. I wouldn't even say that defending your child or family is evil. Using dogs to attack women and horsewhipping kids while you sort people to live or die as though they are objects is different than joining a combat arms unit in military service. But that's all just my opinion. I think the "Stomping Mare" already had some type of personality disorder and she got the opportunity to be herself without the consequences.

I was there when we visited my Grandmother & the rest of my family one summer. My parents survived Hitler's occupation in Poland. My mother's neighbor was in a concentration camp. Thinking he was dead, the Nazi's stripped his clothes & threw him on top of a large pile of dead. He was unconscious. He came to at night. It was winter. He kept warm by burrowing himself under the dead. Slowly, as to not be seen, he slipped down to the end of the pile of dead. At night, he escaped & ran miles until he came upon a house. A Polish family saved his life. He wasn't a Jew, he was Christian. Hitler hated all. He was an atheist that dabbled in the occult. The neighbor died several years ago. His life was never the same. He rarely spoke although he martied & had children. Growing up, we heard endless war stories from my parents. My Uncle was part of the resistance.

It is remarkable how many Austrians were known or suspected of being war criminals, bearing in mind the size of the population in comparison to Germany. Well you are right on one thing. She could have easily said no to killing and wouldn’t have been severely punished as there was not one case of a German guard or soldier being killed for refusing to take part in killings and there were actually many cases of German soldiers or guards in killing squads or in camps who upon refusing to take part in killings or asking for a transfer out of the killing squads or camps not only weren’t punished for doing so but were usually either granted their transfer or were simply given other assignments with the most prominent case being Police Battlion 101. However had she attempted to help Jewish people and was caught then she would probably have likely either been killed or arrested or sent to a concentration camp herself as Germans who openly opposed or criticized the Nazi regime or who were caught helping Jewish people were either killed or sent to concentration camps. One prominent example of this was a member of the Wehrmacht named Anton Schmidt who not only helped save the lives of many Jewish people but also aided a Jewish resistance movement. Tragically Anton was caught by the Nazis and was killed not because he refused to take part in the killings but rather because he was caught both helping Jewish people escape from the Nazis and aiding a Jewish resistance movement. This of course doesn’t justify Hermines actions as she was completely responsible for her actions and she could have easily refused to take part in the killings without being punished but she instead willingly chose to take part in the killings of countless innocent people.
