My doctor prescribed paxil for the week of my period. It worked for me.

I have had better experience with male gynecologists than female ones. It’s an individual thing.

I tried SSRIS lexapro but it gave me restless legs and I just did not feel good the first night I took it. The symptoms were almost instant but maybe I should try it again? Does anyone have any tips? Has birth control helped anyone with pmdd? It's a vicious, draining cycle of being in and out of a black hole.

I take Effexor. Have taken it for years. Lexapro had other side effects for me too that I didn't want and my body reacts adversely to birth control.

I take Prozac (Fluoxetine) and it has made a world of difference in my mood and energy. Symptoms only lasted a couple days for me (fatigue, less appetite), but if you can stick it out it might work for you. Definitely talk with your doc/psych about your options. They should be willing to help you with the trial and error and set realistic expectations for how long symptoms might last.

I used Setlakin birth control for year along with progesterone 100mg every night except for the one week of my cycle every 3 months. It worked for years. I eventually tried getting off birth control to balance everything with hormone replacement, I can say BC was the best route for me.
