A bit of an update, the original spike is still producing flowers. It has put out a new growth (the largest yet) and I just noticed another spike coming! These are beautiful plants and very rewarding!

Hi wade: great video. I've had my psychopsis for a little over a year now and I love this orchid. it just keeps blooming. I grow him with my phals and water once a week. it's making a new leaf and can't want for another flower spike. this is a very rewarding plant indeed.

I have read in many places that Psychopsis orchids don't like being disturbed. Like you, I have found that a repot often gives them a 'kick-start'. Old decaying media vs repot? I would always go for the repot anyday. Good video. Someone asked below if a spike with a broken tip would reflower. Quite rare, but I have seen these with branches from lower down the spike so 'maybe'. My 'best' one has two spikes that flower together. The latest new growth is huge so should produce a third spike. I have seen a plant with 9 spikes at a show - but I'm 'confident' that this was several plants potted up together just for the show - cheating a bit but it looked stunning!

+Roger Frampton Hi Roger. I think that if you repot when it is active growth it won't be set back at all. Mine looks fantastic now in its 6" clay pot. I have no problem keeping it moist and the clay helps prevent excess moisture. They are something that really does belong in every collection.

***** Hi Astrid!! I absolutely love your videos, dear!!! I'm sure you'll do well with it. You know, they really look exotic - even for orchids - but they are really pretty easy to care for and so rewarding!

Oh wow, thank you!!! I didn't know you watched! They look so cool- they remind me of the owl named Kaepora Gaebora from the Zelda video games I played as a kid. I also think they look like funny little aliens when you get close up!

Enjoyed your videos. Wade, I just purchase a psychopsis rescue orchid. Will do the sphagnum moss method. Love to have one blooming in a couple of years.

Lovely and thx for the info. I bought a small bagged Cattleya from Home Depot can you share a video on how to care for them as far as lighting, watering and media needs? Just want to know from your know how.
@wadesorchids72199 жыл бұрын
rmcandlelight I could do that. I have several Cattleyas in spike now. Until I get it out you could check my video on Caring for Rescue Orchids: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZi2fZigoJiZY5Y. Those orchids are usually bare root and stressed when you get them. Keep it shaded a bit more than you would a healthy plant and be sure to stake it so it doesn't wiggle.

Nice plant there...really long spike and flower at the tip. Mine broke its tip unfortunately dont know what will happen now... does the flower come out at the tip only?
@wadesorchids72199 жыл бұрын
soo neaty I have heard that it's possible for it to grow a new tip. At least I would keep it until the spike dies.

ec91001 Hi! I'm sorry but sometimes I miss a comment. I purchased this one at my friend Steve Male's greenhouse. He has Fishing Creek Orchids near Harrisburg. It's also available at Hausermann's and other places.

Can you do a culture video for neofinetia falcata and dendrobium kingianum
@XaViEr35209 жыл бұрын
Yeah neofinitia I just bought a rescue on eBay so would also like some info on growing it!
@wadesorchids72199 жыл бұрын
XaViEr3520 I don't have any Neofinetia at the moment but I plan to get one. They are almost always potted in sphagnum moss and it is mounded like a ball so the top of the moss is above the rim of the pot. I would prefer a clay or net pot to be sure that it dries in a couple days. You don't want the moss to totally dry but get to where it is damp to the touch. Neofinetias like bright, indirect light (more than for Phals and up to Cattleya light). Winter temps are very cool. They can take into the 30s with no problem. If you need more help check out New World Orchids. They specialize in Neofinetias.

I was thinking of mounting one on a kool-log! got the idea from Holy City Orchids (Brittany) you probably know her since she mentions you on her videos!
@wadesorchids72199 жыл бұрын
XaViEr3520 That sounds like an excellent idea! Maybe Brittany can comment on this, but I would use some sphagnum moss as a pad to provide more moisture. Make sure the roots are exposed as they do like a lot of air movement. The Neofinetia does like some cooling and I think the Cool Log is a great product! Good luck and keep us updated.

Does anyone know how long it takes for these to mature or develop a spike ? I bought mine awhile ago and was told it was a mature orchid. It is a nice size and orchid and It's really beautiful just as it is BUT I really can't wait to get a spike and a bloom .
@wadesorchids7219 Жыл бұрын
A mature plant will have a leaf size of about 10" tall.
@keepsmiling704 Жыл бұрын
@@wadesorchids7219Thank you for getting back to me. It looks like I was fibbed to or else the orchid dealer was unaware . My longest leaf at this time is only 9 inches after all this time of having it. Well at least I know now and I guess I will be enjoying the leaves for a while longer until I finally get that spike I am so looking forward too appearing . Thank You again.. I really enjoy watching and learning from video's on orchids as I am just learning to care for them.. Hopefully this old dog can learn a new trick and get the hang of them..

my plant has not been bloming since november (february now) ... is it normal? The spike is still green and the bud is green too... could it be a matter of light ? It has been very cloudy in Paris this winter with almost no sunny day (I have a south facing winfow, humidity between 40 and 65%)... thank you in advance!
@wadesorchids72195 жыл бұрын
Hi Giorgia. Mine does not bloom in winter either. It could be a combination of light and temperature. For me, I think it's temperature but just keep your plant healthy and it will start blooming again when it's ready.

I have one with a huge keiki on it one leaf if 5 or 6" tall. didn't know they could throw a keiki???? no signs of roots, any ideas ?
@wadesorchids72197 жыл бұрын
A keiki from a Psychopsis is kind of rare. You could try wrapping a bit of sphagnum moss around the base of the plant and secure it with some twist tie. It will dry very quickly but try to keep a bit of moisture on it. Sometimes the excess humidity and a substance that roots can go into can stimulate rooting. Good luck!!!

Great timing for this video! I just got one from our local orchid society meeting. .it's potted in tree fern fiber in a clay pot and doesn't have a spike yet. ..it's actually the same one as yours :) do you think I should repot into some moss and bark?
@wadesorchids72199 жыл бұрын
April Arroyo Congratuations!!! These things are so rewarding! As far as repotting, I'd say it depends if you are able to keep it moist and if the tree fern is in good shape. One of the reasons I like the moss is that I can tell immediately if it needs watered.
