His album 808s & Heartbreaks is pretty emotional too. Here's a tasty bite about Kanye talking about his fame: My friend showed me pictures of his kids And all I could show him was pictures of my cribs He said his daughter got a brand new report card And all I got was a brand new sports car Dad cracked a joke all the kids laughed But I couldn't hear 'em all the way in first class Chased the good life my whole life long Look back on my life and my life gone Where did I go wrong?

He's very intuitive and self critical. It's sad because I assume it also fuels some of his mental illness. The fact that he goes so deep and is so insightful spotlights why he has so much appeal. He's living the human condition with us and he'll talk about it. I don't necessarily agree with his full read, but he's pretty on point about many aspects of our culture and our minds. He's so dang gifted. I hope he can heal.

Kanye is a pessimist and perfectionist: he focuses on the negative as opposed to the positive, never feeling something is good enough - including this girl. Recognizing he’s not perfect (his arrogance has always been present), Kanye’s aware that his obnoxiousness was never viewed as “menacing” until he snatched the microphone from America’s Sweetheart, Taylor Swift. While “Runaway” is a public apology for Kanye’s personality, the song further implies that he can’t change the way he is - the world will have to learn to live with Kanye, or run away. This more backhanded toast is in contrast to a celebratory toast on “Last Call,” earlier in Ye’s career. ~Steven Frölke from Genius. Shout out to him.
@jizzmonkeyreunion Жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing this. I've been looking for something like that because I feel like this has dawned on me recently about this song and period of his career. Kanye apologizing for Kanye. It's intense. It's sad too because perfectionism isn't good and likely tied to other emotional challenges. And change is hard, and underlying mental illness makes it more difficult. It's not impossible, but we all need the right help and support.

Pusha Ts verse is supposed to represent Kanye’s dark side, and the worldly things that he continues to lust after, opposed to his better side that values relationships. The verse after pushas really gives more context
@younglord2140 Жыл бұрын
It’s also represents Kanye’s self awareness of the power he has over this girl (aka the girl representing his fame). It’s a love hate relationship but he understands the power dynamic he has over this girl because she wants to continue living the high cost lifestyle Kanye brings and has to suck it up or go back to wearing knock offs. It’s also Kanye telling his fans and the world that he understands he’ll piss them off but they keep coming back for the art

ll the lyrics serve as double entendres about his problems with intimacy in relationships (Amber Rose at the time) but also for how he portrays himself to the media. This is directly after the Taylor Swift incident where he was widely hated. Listen to the lyrics “I always find something wrong” “I’m so gifted at finding what I don’t like the most” represent how he’s addicted to the spotlight, so he’ll always do what he can to stay in the spotlight. This song is pretty much an admittance that he knows what he’s doing is a sickness, but he doesn’t know what he’d do without his fame and attention (“I don’t know how’d I manage, if one day you just up and leave”) The end of the song with his muffled voice is a stylistic and artistic decision representing how he feels when he actually talks to the media. His thoughts and ideas are clear in his head but he can never articulate it right. He gets portrayed as the villain because it’s easy, but if you take time to process what he’s saying you’ll understand where he’s coming from. The song holds such a special place with Kanye fans because it’s indicative of his whole career. We see this cycle every few years with him. The Taylor incident, “you ain’t got the answers sway”, the drake beef, the maga hat, “George bush doesn’t care about black people”, and more. It’s easy to label him as crazy, but the reason why this song is so brilliant is because it encompasses an entire career of controversy. It doesn’t justify it, but rather apologizes for it and tries to explore why he does it in this therapeutic way.

The concept is that Kanye is some kind of monster which is engulfed by the fame and materialism and Pusha T represents that side of Kanye whilst throughout the song Kanye tells the woman in his life to run away from that exact monster depicted by Pusha T and throughout the album. Some people have pointed to the fact that in the context of the album the woman might at times be a metaphor for fame. You should truly check out the full 9min song, it is my favourite song of all time and the ending is very metaphorical and beautiful symbolising how little his words mean and how little control he has over his perception and the woman following his orders in the song, and putting the raw emotion of tone and melody at the forefront of the song.

I think the song is talking about kanye being the asshole in a relationship with a girl who deserves to get treated better. He realizes that he's an asshole but doesn't apologize at all BECAUSE he is one. Then in a moment of clearence he accepts that he's not good for her and tells her to run away because he's never going to change which is emphazised by him not being sorry
