What’s really been sad for me to see is how many people think Kanye’s mental health is used as an “excuse”. I can only imagine these people have never had bipolar disorder or known someone who has had it, the manic episodes and potential psychosis especially can turn someone into a person you don’t recognize.

The biggest issue is unmedicated you are legitimately not responsible for your actions to some extent. However all you need to do is take medication and it stops the mood swings and episodes. For some people, they really don’t take well to medication, it often causes significant weight gain, and can seriously alter your emotional state (which it’s designed to to) and often people complain of symptoms of more or less feeling like a zombie or a a robot, if I were in that situation I would understand why other people would be against at least always being on medication. Kanye said that he only used it when he needed it, the issue is during a manic episode, you don’t want that feeling to go away, and you’re paranoid, so you could also convince yourself the medication is bad or some other more colorful delusion, and that means that if you do not take it as prescribed, you are likely not going to take the medication and continue to destroy your life and everyone around you until you stop being manic. And that’s exactly what Kanye got himself into, last we know of, he convinced himself he was misdiagnosed and actually had adhd and is “slightly autistic”, and that last part may ver well be true, but a manic bipolar person convinced they’re not bipolar is probably of the worst things to happen. I hope he comes to terms with his mental illness, takes his medication regularly and gets therapy, but given it’s basically just been getting worse and worse since he got diagnosed, I’m not very optimistic.

Just goes to show how most people see mental illness as this "quirky" thing to have and it shouldn't be shamed (it shouldn't btw) but when they see or come into contact with the ugly side of it, they are repulsed and completely do a 180 and shame the person with it
