YES! Everyone in their late teens and early 20s should watch this. After high school I went on my first solo trip to Bali and then ended up finding love and going to Chile and Peru with him. AMAZING YEAR. Now that I am back I plan to go to college and travel! People don't understand you can do both there is no wrong way. Not everyone approves my decisions but I am not living for them I am living for me! And most importantly I am so incredibly happy. Love love loooove this video. So inspirational.

Hi guys, i see a lot of comments asking how and where do i start. basically DOUBT. so i'd like to share my thoughts and my secret on how to get started. First, you need the courage to say fuck this and set a goal in stone that on date XX i'm going to place XX for XX amount of time. Then you need to work full time, 2 jobs if you have to, to save money until said XX departure date. in the mean time, you're planning your travel details, watching travel videos for tips as well as doing research on the place(s) you're going to. i'm currently on this path, leaving for a Euro-trip this coming summer for 3 months and teaching English in China for a year+ after that. The hardest step for most people is the ability to be incredibly decisive on this decision and not let anything derail you or give you doubt. I honestly suggest start meditating so you can find inner pace and get to know yourself. it'll help you abandon your insecurities, self-doubt and negativity that you've built up via societies unrealistic/superficial standards and discouraging words and labels people in your life has narcissistically attached to you. Believe in your-self, you don't need to live for anyone else or please anyone else in your life besides yourself. I believe in you! as you plan this, and I KNOW you will, just know that me and thousands of others are going through the same process you are, you're not alone. now, or ever.

I finished high school in italy when I was 18. turned 19 at the end of the summer, volunteered around and left for a month in Australia in november 2014. In january 2015 I left to become an Au Pair in the States and i'm halfway through my second year, living in California, and I couldn't have made a best decision. I saw places I've never imagine I could and made it on my own. I can't wait to see where I'll be able to go next. Travelling teaches you so much more than anyone who stays in their comfort zone would ever think of

THANK YOU for this video, THANK YOU for your words and your way of thinking. Travelling is something that I REALLY want to do in my life and I actually have no idea how to do it. I've just returned from 3 months solo travel of SEA and had such an amazing time which led me to recently book a flight to Aus to work out there for a year but I've also been offered a well payed job in the field of my degree... It's a very tough decision as all we hear is how there are no jobs and if you can find something in your degree then you've been lucky. I'm in my mid 20's so worry if I don't take this opportunity to experience Aus now on a working holiday visa will I ever... Thanks for your view. Earned yourself another subscriber :)

Originally I wanted to join the US Navy and one of the main reasons for that was to travel. But realizing that would take me away from my girlfriend and my family a lot I decided to drop it and go to college. Just like you were saying, many people keep telling me that I need to know what I want to do and I need to go do it now, and I always thought that I wanted to travel and people would respond by telling me I need to get a degree and a job first. I want to personally thank you for this video because everything you said is what I needed to hear, something other than "You need to hurry up and go to college!"

Alli, first off I want to say that you are awesome! I have watched the majority of your youtube videos (embarrassingly enough, some more then once). This video in particular really hit home with me. People are so different, where I am from I do not feel like there are a lot of people with a travel bug, as you and I have. I have struggled with some not understanding my passions, I hope I meet more people like you on my future adventures. I have always had a great love for the outdoors, water and travel. However, my family insisted on me getting my degree before I followed my passions. I graduated, with a degree in sociology, in May 2014. Since then, I worked at Boy Scout Camp, where I received my dive certification. Then spent the summer, as a sailing instructor, in the Caribbean, with no previous sailing experience. This last year, I was in Key West, Florida teaching people how to snorkel, educating guests on ocean protection, and my personal favorite dolphin tours. Side note: anything you want to know about dolphins, I am your girl. I am now preparing for my next journey. This is where you come in, my Australian work holiday visa. I am very excited. This will be as far from home as it gets, I am from the US. I am so glad that you were a solo traveler and loved it, I hope that I enjoy it as much as you have. You have answered so many questions and helped me figure things out, I want to say thank you! Keep up the great work :)

Thanks for the amazing video as ever! I think that the two don't have to be mutually exclusive and that one has to pick one over the other. As you have experienced, travel can define your future career and change the direction that it may take, or bring you to somewhere else in the world that you can do what you love doing best! I agree that it is important not to rush into the rat race as fast as your legs can carry you, and that if you have studying you want to do not to rush through it just to get that dream job straight after school... You may find out if you haven't opened your eyes to other opportunities along the way that when you get there it may not be that dream job after all. I think at the end of the day the most important thing is to do what makes you happy, and to look beyond one's immediate horizons in finding out what that is.... With that as your mindset who knows where in the world that might take you.....

It is so true, thank you for making this video! There's nothing that gives the kind of excitement like travels, let alone the ideas and opportunities coming with it. Career is one thing but I know it just fills a vacuum sometimes. The hardest part is to not follow the crowd or listen to other people. They don't know what is good for you, maybe they don't even know what they want so they do what they see in their closest environment. You went around the subject so righteously, keep up this good spirit! I would be interested in a PhD as a trophy but I don't have the time to sit in a lab for years, right now. Years ago, I did a master in linguistics, I knew I wasn't going to make much use of it because a steady job is a prison for me and I don't think I did anything bad to punish myself with it. Enjoy freedom and realize that traveling is made easier and faster than ever nowadays.

I compromised and booked a one way ticket to America for after my final exams. I have a gut feeling about it - i don't wana join the rat race! Thanks for the video ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Thank you. You brought tears to my eyes with what you said about doing what makes you happy rather than what is the "right" path. I need to make a change with my life. I'm just unsure of what's going to happen financially.

Awesome speech! I've been noticing that a lot, and I mean a lot of British young adults go to Australia to travel - both from real life experiences and this comment section alone haha

Thank you. I have been travelling but felt bad about it, just because of the career issue.... You inspire me to keep on going. Thank you.

thank you so much! honestly SO relatable and inspiring. my mom has always wanted me to go to university and then settle down to raise a whole bunch of kids. that's what my sisters all wanna do with their lives. and recently I've felt that maybe I'm just weird cuz...that's never been what I wanted to do. every girl my age seems to want that. and I've been asking myself "is there something wrong with me??". instead of settling down to a quiet ordinary lifestyle to raise a family, I've always wanted to go to college, then spend my life travelling, blogging, writing, and experiencing what the world has to offer! and it's funny that you mentioned that feeling of working in a little cafe and dreaming of owning your own cuz JUST TODAY I was thinking that exact thing!! anyways, sorry for the long comment, but your video was awesome and inspired me so much. and now I KNOW that it isn't doing what everyone else expects of you that will matter in the end, it is your happiness! and if I wanna travel the world and publish novels and own a little cafe of my own someday because that will make ME happy, then screw what anyone else, including my mom, thinks of what I should do with my life! I am going to lead a happy busy meaningful life doing what I love, thank-you for encouraging and reassuring me!!!

Couldn't agree more with this video. I left school after 6th form and never went to uni (didn't know what I wanted to do). I then spent the next 10 years working in retail and having a flat all the time dreaming of travelling. My flat mate moved to London and I moved back home (begrudgingly), but it was the best thing that ever happened to me. 7 months later I took a sabbatical from work and spent 5 weeks trekking around Japan and now I'm back saving for the big one which will involve a good 2 years away.

Everytime I watch your videos it makes me so glad and less nervous that my one way flight to Melbourne is booked for 6 months away! Ive been at my job for 4 years and have worked my way up to a decent wage and job role so I do sometimes think quitting would be a mistake but I know in my heart its not what I want so I have to try travelling!

I recently found your channel and this video is AMAZING!! You literally read my mind! Im quitting my job in 7 months and buying a one way ticket to Australia. I'll be there for 3 months before I fly to Singapore and start traveling through Asia. Im so excited!! I will be vlogging all of it of course and hope that I can make enough money through youtube to travel for at least 5 years. Keep it up! Youre such an inspiration!! Sending you love from Los Angeles!

Wow! Really inspiring! Cool that you put down in words what probably many people in this world are considering, but are too scared to take this step and do it. We were in the same rollercoaster, being pushed by society to study, finish university and prepped for corporate jobs that we actually didn't want at first. We've been to uni, afterwards the shitty corporate jobs and decided this is not the way we want to live our lives. It took us over 3 years to finally make the decision to step up for what we really want, open our own hostel! Right now we're just starting, but it already feels like the best decision we've ever made...

I've watched your videos for years now and finally I need to say that I love them and what you do. I'm 30, I never went to university, I still live with my parents in the most expensive city in the UK outside of London and I've had the same full time job for the last 10 years. I went abroad for the first time ever last year (2 weeks in Canada) and all I want to do now is pack a suitcase and buy a ticket to somewhere and keep travelling. I have so many reasons to stay home and keep working and paying bills: friends, family, my own fears and anxieties ... but only one reason to pack it all in and travel: that if I don't I think I'll regret it forever.

+LittleMissGem85 Most expensive City outside of London... Oxford or St. Albans?
@littlemissgemreads8 жыл бұрын
+Zem Oxford. Well done in narrowing it down. Ha! I've lived here all my life and kind of hate it.
@Zemmmmmmmm8 жыл бұрын
+LittleMissGem85 haha, well I live in St Albans! why do you hate it?
@littlemissgemreads8 жыл бұрын
+Zem I guess it's my own fault for not doing anything about it. I can't afford to move out of my parents house even though I work full time. I like my job so don't really want to quit to try and find another job/home in the UK. My only other option would be to leave it all and travel, which I would love to do but I guess I am my biggest obstacle.
@Zemmmmmmmm8 жыл бұрын
+LittleMissGem85 I see. sounds like a difficult one. I'm only 20 but I'm losing my job next month so I'm taking the summer out to try out this travelling malarkey and see how I get on.

Many travel vloggers brag about their "wanderlust" and the life lessons they learnt when they went on some sort of organized trip. You manage tell your subscribers in a really down to earth way. I decided to travel for 8 months in december after finishing my bachelor in biology. I just bought a ticket and decided it was the perfect time to go traveling. Just buying your first ticket far in advance is also a really good motivator to save money for your trip. Keep on vlogging! very useful AND fun to watch :)

WOW. This video depicts what I am feeling exactly. I'm about to graduate college for my undergrad. I plan to go to med school. Medicine is my passion. But lately, I have been wonder something else. I wonder if there is some thing else out there for me. I want to see the world, do things that I would never be able to do, basically live life to the fullest. I feel trap where I am right now and I am not sure why. I have never traveled outside of the country by myself before. Watching your channel really...I mean REALLY inspire me to take risks and be brave. My gosh! This touches me to much. Thank you so much!

I love it, I'm in university at the moment & have every intention of finishing but the travel bugs eats at me every day. So much so that I've gotten myself on track to graduate early so I can take a 6 month backpacking trek throughout Australia & SE Asia. The ultimate goal is to incorporate my career with travel so I can keep going till I die!

This is a great video. My family and friends believe that you have to hate your job and that's just the way it is. What is the point of this life if you are going to be miserable 90% of the time. I choose happiness! :) keep up the great videos.

This is the first video I've watched of yours and it's changed my life. I've always wanted to pick up and travel every inch of the globe after a few years of college/uni but I worried over if thats the best way I could go about "starting my life" or "getting myself on the right track". There's the financial aspect of it too, and the fear that I could never be a successful enough blogger/vlogger/journalist to pursue this lifestyle. But wow, this video puts it all in perspective, reminds me I don't have to follow the beaten path into the career centered lifestyle, and you absolutely understand how I feel and have justified it! Thank you for that, my dream doesn't feel so much like an unreachable fantasy.

I've been fighting with the thought of travelling after university for about a year, being told by my parents that if I don't basically try to get a job straight after uni, i'm doomed. This video has made the decision for me. I'm going to save for a year then go - Thank you.

Love this video! Thank you Aly for saying exactly what goes through my mind every time someone asks me what I'm doing with my life. I'm not ready to start working and do the same thing for the next 40 years or so. I know life's short but I think it is also long enough to do everything I've wanted, and travel is the first thing on my list.

Wow for starters so inspiring!! Finally someone spills from their heart and not from the experience of what the world perceive as to be the right thing to do in life. I have always felt this way after finishing high school. Remembering all the times I explained my thoughts in full depth and receiving the most confused looks or I would get the "I'm sorry your lost right now hopefully your find your career soon." But just knowing deep down I had this passion to travel the world and be able to enhance everything the world has to offer. Thank you again for sharing(:
