If there is plating in the chamber i like to break through it with sandpaper prior to using a hand cutter. Just saves the edge on the tooling and makes things smoother

One theory on a slightly larger squish is that if it gets too tight it eliminates a boundary layer of air fuel mix trapped by the band. I can see benefits on either side but have no idea who is correct!
