Thank you for all you detailed information, I am building my engine the same way, your videos have helped me to build it perfectly, I have watched other people’s videos and they do not go into detail like you do, none of them mention anything about clearancing the piston skirts . Thank you from England 🇬🇧😎🤩😃

That is a work of art. You're doing an awesome job and the devil is in the details. Its should absolutely purr when you fire it up!

Thanks friend! Even though it’s a baby stroker, it’s still my first so I’m a bit nervous about the first start. All seems well though 🤞
@OTTO-13033 жыл бұрын
Impressed with your approach to the piston skirt clearance. Trimming the skirts uniformly and maintaining balance, and retaining skirt support in the cylinder will no doubt extend the durability of the engine, instead of just hacking them off flush. Very good work that will certainly pay off.
@bomberobus3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. It seems like grinders and a dremel are becoming top tools in builds now. Not just for clearance, but cleaning up flaws too.

Cutting those skirts is just stupid. They don't sell 88mm B's for a reason. Buy 90.5 B's and not AA piston/liners.Tweaking on those 88's is just embarrassing..
@bomberobus10 ай бұрын
@doginu yeah that sort of absolute opinion doesn’t usually take all things into consideration, like also having to buy new heads, which was mentioned. It’s VW’s man, I gotta use what I can afford to have. I do prefer however, and hope to upgrade to the 90.5’s one day. Dub daily.
@doginu10 ай бұрын
90.5's are $5 less. Use VW balanced rods, cut case and heads. Your build went down $75@@bomberobus

Hell yeah Bombero. Glad Darrin and Mike could help you out. Your video consolidated their advise so now I know where to go. I’m gonna need all this info when I do my build. Nothing this big but hopefully a little performance upgrade.

No worries man. Good luck when you do it and holla if you need anything.

Your right, I have to clearance the piston skirts, just did them all, and all weigh the same, massive big thank you for all your information,🇬🇧😎🤩

Really cool video! Thanks. After buying a Karmann Ghia with a unknown size hopped up engine, and dual Webber’s, I’m addicted to more speed out these flat 4s. It’s a bunch fun.

Great video I'm in the process building a same exact combination and ran into the same problems as u and you gave me the answers to my problems!! God bless and thank u !!

That’s music to my ears! I love this engine and I think you’re going to like yours too. The main goal of sharing info on KZbin is to help other people, (and I learn stuff too😎). Best of luck with your build!

@bomberobus Жыл бұрын
@@anthonyalvarez5798 I used stock rockers, and got extra lift from my cam instead. So I had minimal shimming on the rocker shaft, and was able to use stock push rods. I did install a solid shaft rocker, but used stock rocker arms on that. Sounds like you’re getting along with it! 💪🏼
@anthonyalvarez5798 Жыл бұрын
I had to put 2 shims 0.40 on each cyl , I'm going to try and see if they work but juts in case I got the kit that have the long ones that u have to measure and cut

watched another tuber's build today and watched them completely chop off the piston skirt. then i thought i'd seen this done on another more generic channel and, yes, they chopped the tabs off on a jbugs build vid. then i did a generic search on piston clearancing. your vid showed up and so i'm watching this one again. you are correct in that those skirts are there for a purpose and i'm going to have to do a vid on that purpose. people see the shortened B pistons and think that you can just do that do an A piston. no, the geometry is different. leave as much of the skirt in place as you possibly can.
@bomberobus Жыл бұрын
That would be awesome. I didn’t know the exact details at that time, but my gut said to leave as much of the skirts as possible. I saw the same vid where they were cut straight off and my spidey senses started tingling 😂 That’d be a cool vid!
@redshirt-scotty Жыл бұрын
@@bomberobus it will be a while before i get to the piston stuff. next up will be fan belts. haha. what can possibly be said about the fan belt? i'm sure you have been to slade's channel. about 2 years ago i made a comment on one of his vids and one of his subs didn't understand what i was talking about. belts. so simple but apparently not. the belt vid has been on the back burner for 2 years now.

Well I’m the name of experimentation, I got the L3’s for this build, since the last build had 501’s. We’ll see how they go. I’m waiting for them now…be about 4-6 weeks they say😔

Just wondering if you plan to notch the lifters as well? On my build, I notched mine. I have the same lifters. I installed the 2280 Cheater Cam.
@bomberobus3 жыл бұрын
I’m still not sure. I was thinking no because I didn’t do the other parts of Hoover mod, and the lifters looked good. I compares them to some stock lifters in the next vid. There’s one little thing that didn’t look right but the clearance to cam lobe is on point.

@@bomberobus since i was here i started reading comments. hvx mod stuff. just can't get away from it. it's like covid. a disease infecting almost everyone with an old vw. i was watching another guy's interpretation of the case borings and he thought the borings would increase the oil flow to the cam thrust bearings. the misunderstanding of what that mod does is mind blowing.

What cam did you use in this?

Hey Travis it’s an Eagle 2241 cam from CB performance. It’s right between an Engle 100 and 110. Love it so far.
