In that amount of time since I posted that last comment I got up from my seated position on my back porch looked down and there was a hoofpick already got the cover off

You can actually fix the stuck horn, if caused by the clips sticking, with an aerosol can of white lithium lube grease, without removing the airbag. You just squirt some grease into those three holes and work the horn pad back and forth, honking the horn, to spread the grease. If the problem really is a stuck clip, pulling sharply on the horn pad will usually release the stuck horn.

My cast hook faces had some over-spray of rubber material that I scraped away which seemed likely to have contributed to the air-bag assembly not returning once depressed. No problems since so I'm happy with the results. You're right though, if anyone wants to try to remedy a similar problem with the least amount of effort, some type of grease on a Q-tip or sprayed through the access holes + exercising the airbag assembly within its moveable range could produce the desired results as well. I'd say use a Q-tip to prevent people from over-applying & making a mess inside + pull the horn fuse - Good luck!

Note that this procedure for removing the horn pad/airbag is for a 2006-2010 PT Cruiser. 2001-2005 PT Cruisrers have a different-design clip that needs to be spread apart to release it.

I bought removal tool lisle 56200 does not work with model shown yet says pt cruiser on the package. Guys just make your own tool

Does taking the central bolt off allow you to take the steering wheel off?

No, there will almost surely be a nut to remove the steering wheel but this video & my experience is nill with regards to removing the SW on a PT. Good luck!

Take apart for inspection then go from there. In my case there was excess plastic material that needed to be scraped away + lube to allow free operation. Inspect, determine, remedy - Good Luck!

airbags are ez -anything except the upper /lower motor mounts is hell

theres a video here on it but if you can take a sm flathead screwdriver a short one like 2-3 inches and look thru the windshield right behind the airbag /horn assembly are 3 metal clips you need to lever off -once u get one the others are easier its held on with these clips tension -once u disturb the tension pull on the assembly and it;ll come off - remove battery tho b4 u know that when putting new ones back
