I have a 2009 sportsman 800x2 my pump kicks on but i gotta hold the throttle a little open to get it to run and my idle is erratic sometimes 900s sometimes as high as 1500 whats your thoughts on it?

Sounds like it could be a bad throttle position sensor, or it could just need adjustment. There are many videos on how to test them and adjust them. There are ways with special equipment and then there are hacks too, so search what suits you. Good like. Probably just a sensor.
