The last 4 or 5 songs feel like an album within an album. Huge SP fan over here & I hope you'll react to more of the their albums. And I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter.

Long horses we are born Creatures more than torn Mourning our way home Are probably the best lyrics Corgan ever wrote. I'm a huge Pumpkin fan - far back as 1992. I still think "Crestfallen", "Annie-Dog" and "Blank Page" should have been removed from the record and released on an EP (I think "Blank Page" is one of their best) just to shorten the album a tad and give it a huge impact. Also as much as I like "Blank Page" I think "For Martha" was the real end of the album.

It's so funny sharing music that you've loved for years with a virtual stranger who's never heard it before. You want them to love it on the first listen as much as you love it on the 100th! But you did a great job, thank you so much.

Thanks for sharing with us. I'm sorry about your daughter. Man, were we spoiled for good albums in the late 90's. This came out one year after OK Computer. IT took a decade or more for people to finally come around and start giving it praise. At the time it came out, people were predictably negative about it because it was different.

Thanks. late 60s to 90s was a good 40 year run. Too bad it seemed to come to an end.

@@deanwolfechannel we've been absolutely spoiled the last couple decades, it's just that there's a lot more noise:signal (and there's been less time for the former to dissipate)

Songs like For Martha and Tool's Wings for Marie/10,000 Days can really bring out strong emotions. I lost my dad in 1998 when I was 18 and I heard this album pretty soon after. While that fog you mentioned may lift some, a person you really love always sticks with you. I don't know if you're meant to fully "finish" with grief for those people. Dean, I'm happy to hear you're doing OK and that your channel brings you some comfort.

For Martha sounds sort of like Steven Wilson/Porcupine tree to me, with a Brian May ending. So beautiful. I remember you having an emotional reaction to “the One” by BABYMETAL, mentioning your daughters passing and how she loved Japanese things. One of the many great things about music is its capacity to help heal. Sorry again for your loss. Have you seen BABYMETAL’s piano version of Monochrome on the First Take? Another song about loss and healing that gets me every time. They are on the First Take again tomorrow with new girl Momoko. Thanks, Dean.

I was thinking about this record very recently, and it was great listening through it with you. It can be a hard listen; both hauntingly beautiful and at times very bleak and depressive. Absolutely wonderful overall, and it has some of Corgan’s best singing. Incredibly under-appreciated when it released because it was so different from what they had released before, and a huge amount of their fans never came back. It’s very easy to appreciate now in their vast catalog of music, and it feels almost timeless.

thanks so much for sharing that about your loss. I've had 4 suicides in my family. This album is very much about loss and it was powerful to see it hit someone else who really knows loss. Pumpkins are my favorite band of all. We are doing a Top 50 SP Songs series on my channel.. going chronologically through the catalog but it's time for us to get to adore which I think is a masterpiece.

For Martha should have been the closer to this album. I've got a theory that some producer accidentally hit the shuffle button on his computer and was too embarrassed to ask what order the tracks were supposed to be in.

This record is Billy's personal implosion. he gets divorced. his mom dies, Jimmy Chamberlain is gone. the band member he's closest to and his sounding board. plus he's producing most of this himself. he follows up a career defining record in 1996. with a low-fi electronic record. in 1998. nobody understands this record . Billy's purging his demons.its a soulful masterpiece. There's a MONO version in the expanded edition which is better in my opinion. 17 is worth a listen. it's the Genesis of blissed & gone. an amazing track that would eventually get a proper release.

Making this record would have had a kind of healing effect on Billy. I know as an artist that making and creating something helps you come to terms with things- helps you process .
