I really enjoy watching your videos! You're very knowledgeable. However, you should really take the time in doing the procedures correctly just as some have already commented. You should never enter liquid refrigerant into the compressor. Only vapor refrigerant and oil go in the compressor. This is the first video I've seen you put a service tap in. I would have put a tap on both the high and low side, pressure tested, and pumped it down to 250 microns. Then entered the liquid refrigerant through the high side like you're suppose to. I assure you I will keep watching your videos because they're very interesting; however, I would not be able to show young future techs a video like this because there are too many procedural errors; even if you got it working. Good luck in all your future endeavors and keep making videos.

I think my unit is low on Freon. I know how to use gauges to check if it has the correct amount but I cant solder in an access port. In your experience are most of the systems sealed or have you ran into some that already have ports installed?

Hello, No, every ptac unit I have seen they are completely sealed, but you can install a tap valve for access

While you are brazing the tubing aren't you concern that you my be blocking the passage

Why didn't you cut the line at the hole in it, put a coupling after sanding the copper tubing and braze the coupling on both sides ? 😵

Hello, I have a question I have a PTAC that when the compressor runs for about 5 minutes or so I cut off and repeats to come on and of continuesly. Do you think it's low refrigerant that the cause?

I would check for a broken fan blade, a weak condenser motor, or dirty condenser

You must know that you are the only tech that puts compressed atmospheric air which contains water vapor into their system and everyone else uses dry nitrogen.

Hey Paul You are right about using nitrogen, If it was a central unit I would be the first one to be using dry nitrogen, because of the length of the copper lines(could be over 25ft), and also size of the condenser and evaporator coils. However these are small units so the moisture, humidity is removed by the vacuum pump.

You did a unsatisfactory job on this unit and failed to 1. either swedge or couple the cap tube. 2. Replace the filter drier. 3. Install high and low pressure service ports. 4. Pressure test the system with nitrogen. 5. Pull the system down to 500 microns. Jeez this is a sloppy d.i.y. job and would NEVER maintain a factory warranty. I wouldn't be surprised if you created a restriction in that cap tube. And why remove the entire valve port and stick a service port completely into the the low side pipe? Creating yet another possible restriction? So many errors and you decided to post this video online and create a "how to" video? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Hello.Thank you for your reply... ok so first off this was an old unit that had no warranty what so ever. Now keep in mind these units are disposable, you can find one from 450 to 800 dollars. So a lot of owners don't want to spend a lot of money on these things for repairs. So the point of this video was to do repairs quickly and with really low resources. If it were a warranty repair, that would have been a different story. For starters I would have ordered the part which comes complete with the filter dryer and wouldn't mess with the capillary tube and of course would have to follow some of the points on your comment. I can assure you with my 15 plus years of experience that none of the capillary tube repairs nor the access port installation that I performed caused any restrictions.
