Pterygopalatine fossa (anatomy)

The pterygopalatine fossa is a space deep in the face between bones. It is interesting because it connects to the orbit, nasal cavity, cranial cavity, oral cavity and pharynx.
Can I show you where it is? This is a tough one.

The skull is such an interesting structure of strength and passageways. Every minute section is a purpose built component for the overall design and construction. The intricacies and interconnectivity of the bones is fantastic. This example the third molars are positioned near perfectly.

This anatomy is a nightmare! I can't imagine mastering all this. Can you show with clay how the structures of the brain sit against these bones? Like how does the sella turcica and pituitary sit in there?

The sella turcica doesn't sit in there -- it's part of the sphenoid bone; the saddle-shaped part into which the pituitary gland sits.

It was a bit of nightmare to try and make a video about. I may make a separate video about the sphenoid bone taken out of the skull to better show a lot of the detail in here, but I thought that showing a sphenoid bone on it's own in this video would just make it worse.
