So far I've had no complaints with my PTR. Thanks for posting I'm going to check out my lower give it a closer look because mine is identical to yours.

PTR customer service did come through with a replacement after a week or two. Just not something you want to happen to a rifle you may depend on.

RTG has pinned and clipped steel lowers fairly cheap. I bought mine about eight years ago and it came with the navy/polymer lower.

That sucks and I hope PTR takes care of you. Having said that, everybody shits on the Century C308 but mine has been 100% since round one (maybe because they are 80% PTR made?).

Those lower trigger groups are usually HK originals (G3). I have an older aluminum century, and mines an original G3 G3 lower. Mine doesnt have a 2and pin, but a shelf like yours. Mine is violent, disturbing and kick a55, especially to brass. But has never failed once. I am running Radway Green through it, but I wouldn't even know if my extractor is broke because it's so damn violent. Get it sorted and you'll be happy. Much better than an FAL
@BrosephMerrick2 жыл бұрын
I agree with it being better than an FAL, at least compared to DSA. PTR honored their warranty and sent a replacement, but I figured out I prefer the Navy style polymer lower anyways.
@stormking577 ай бұрын
Is that a ptr lower? I've only seen them with a polymer lower. I put a HK lower in mine with a Bill Springfield trigger group and have shot a few thousand rounds through it with no problem.

Let us know what happens. Heard many good things about PTR customer service, but would be better not to have to use them at all. I've owned a PTR 32 for a few months and I think I got a winner (and not a lemon). PTR 91 coming in today (will take possession in a few weeks). Going to Cerakote an AC Unity handguard OD green; will see how that comes out. I'd love to have a backup lower like you have. Any recommendations? just RTG and HKParts? thanks for the video
@BrosephMerrick2 жыл бұрын
The backup lower I have is from a Century C308 sporter. I would probably order one from HKParts. Might be worth checking if Apex has them first, because generally their pricing is a little better. Plus you could get some extra mags from Apex for $4-5 a piece. The steel Cetme mags I got for $4 cleaned up really well, I just haven’t gotten a chance to test their reliability yet.

Another thing, my buddy bought a PTR-91 a few weeks ago and is already having some issues with feed and extraction reliability. He figures there is a "break-in" period and is going to see what happens. HK never had any break-in period. The originals run 100% reliable right out of the box!
@BrosephMerrick2 жыл бұрын
Is he using steel or brass case ammo? I think you get better extraction with the steel case ammo on these.

That looks soldered, not welded. Thats why you dont have any penetration. A local weld shop can spot weld the shelf back in place (like it supposed to be) quickly and cheaply. And then you can refinish the metal with a can of Aluma-Hyde. Or just buy a German HK clipped and pinned polymer housing from HKPARTS for $65 + shipping. The shelf is molded into the polymer and its HK quality so you can just put that on and forget about it.
@BrosephMerrick2 жыл бұрын
Looked spot welded to me. Welded it back in place with the mig and got a complete replacement from PTR. So now I’ve got two spares, but I’m liking the polymer lower more anyways.

I’d still get one for sure. It’s still one of my favorites. Best if you can check it out in person and feel the ergos, and inspect it yourself before paying. It’s definitely not for everyone. Make sure the charging handle is easy enough for you to operate reliably and that the LOP works for you.

That's what you get with a non-licensed clone. The real G3/HK91, Greek SAR-3/8 and Portuguese FMP are the best on the market. All made to proper specifications and licensed by HK. PTR-91 is reverse engineered and was never licensed by HK. You get what you pay for. Us old farts bought all the good ones back in the 1980's and early 1990's. I got my first HK91 in 1984 and it has never, ever had any malfunctions. ZERO! The original hammer forged barrels last forever as well. PTR is just an "affordable" clone. I'm not attacking PTR owners, you make the best with what you can afford or obtain. Just stating the facts so that people can make an informed choice.
@BrosephMerrick2 жыл бұрын
And PTR isn't even the worst of the G3 clones on the US market. There are some real stinkers check out the Hesse Arms Centurion 2000. Then there's the Century Arms C308, which is more of a Cetme model C clone than it is a G3 clone. If I could get an HK91 I would. I'm not sure you old farts will ever appreciate how good you had it lol. Crates of surplus rifles and plentiful cheap ammo, it truly was the promised land.
