The problem is that pubs just can't compete with the supermarket and off-license prices anymore. It's like £4/5 a pint in many pubs, and you can get 8 cans for that in your local off-licence or supermarket. It's more expensive to drink out now, so many people just choose to get a few cans and stay in.

To add to that, the price they charged landlords to buy their beer was extortionate. I could buy a pint 50p cheeper in my local Weatherspoons than I could from Punch.

P2) Let the pubs compete with clubs with later opening times then you won't get so much trouble as most folks in pubs know each other. Its usually only the small town clubs where people fight, cause trouble or get treated like hooligans by the bouncers - avoid, its not like that in London. Let the pubs get longer opening times & cut down on the trouble. I am English and I like St Patricks Day, if we celebrated St Georges day like that it would be awesome! It would also gives us a better image.

What do you want in a pub? Well the people make a pub what it is, if you have a good crowd that likes good music, good food & good beer you are half way there. I like clubbing but if you have a party atmosphere at your local pub like good indie / American soul like Kings of Leon etc or folk music (English or Irish) that gets folks dancing & drinking more you have a good business model.

Simple fact,a pint of beer bought in a pub does not represent value for money,and is not affordable any more.Offies are cheaper,supermarkets also,people have less disposable income now,all the immigrants drink in the streets,all the youth do,older people cannot afford pub prices.So pubs will continue to close.

Give up alcohol and you wont need the pub. Take up mountain biking or something instead. Life too short to throw money down the drain on booze.
