Me and my dad was just like you, I boxed for 12 years and he was a pub scrapper, when me and him used to go out together and get on the lash, it quite often went pear shaped and we would get into a full blown scrap which would end in tears due to the drink ! but the next day it was all forgotten and we would laugh about it! And never hold a grudge, He is not just my dad but my best mate, and we love each other, just like you do with your boy!, we are both in recovery now and I haven’t had a drink for 20 years and life is good today, thanks for your story it took me back a lot of years ago and good luck with your future endeavours!.

No wonder you got a thick ear Matt, he's got some fast hands and throws a solid shot. The apple never falls far from the tree as they say. God bless you Matt, it only happened because of the drink and the fact you care about your boy growing up to have manners and respect.

I remember that day. You phoned me strait after, quite upset, and told me what happened. And I told u I went thru it with my old man, it’s not uncommon, thought I could take him on when I was 16 cuz I was bigger than him. My dad was 60 and an ex boxer for the merchant navy etc etc. anyway it didn’t last long, I didn’t see it coming. Picked myself up off the floor , not hurt, just my pride ; ) bit of a lesson learnt

As usual mate you have a great way of telling stories, the way you describe things and how they happened makes us feel like we were there. I totally understand that once you have been boxing or fighting for a long time, drink is something that can make you just slip into character and its just good that you love your son so much you were able to keep your cool and disarm him. Kudos to him for giving it a go though but also to you for keeping a clear head and also kudos to him for apologising the next day, just from the training video you put up you can see he is a good kid. Keep the videos coming mate, really enjoyed this one.

My dad boxed in his youth and in the military,, i had a little boxing experience and dabbled in taekwondo lol,, anyway it was quite a bloody brawl,,, my uncles said it was better than the Morrison/Foreman fight. Mr Legg, I have to admit the story made me chuckle. But I will say something now, as a son of a powerful ex army boxer, natural big body builder with hands like blown up pvc gloves, I always wished I could be bigger and better than my dad. But when the years pass by you suddenly realise one day you could probably beat your dad, be better than your dad, but I never wanted to show him I may have been better. My dad was my hero who like you hated bullies, never showed fear of anything, caring and respectful to older people, a man I loved in life and in his passing and greatly missed. He will always be that person until the day I pass away. As for your son, there is a saying, the drink brings out the true you. Hopefully your son won't allow drink to make him violent or be a bully. Hopefully he follows his now matured fathers attitude to life, if he does he won't go far wrong.

As the eldest son of a man who was feared, respected and fought with in equal measures and now a dad of 2 young boys, I’ve got a lot of time for these stories. I can see the same anger that I have in my youngest, and I tell my missus regularly that there will be a day when we have to fight. Fair play for sharing this story mate, i was completely distraught after it happened but as this video shows, that these things do happen and i suppose make our relationships stronger in the end. That story brought a tear 😢 to my eye for sure...alcohol is such a toxic substance...fortunately for me, in my youth, whenever I got drunk, I was far more interested in getting p***y, than throwing punches 👊...I like to fight, but not on the street...fortunately, you didn't seriously injure your son...still, that event alone probably would've sobered me up permanently...I'm a Trauma Nurse in San Diego...all anyone has to to do is drop someone, have their skull impact the pavement, causing an intra-cerebral hemorrhage, & they're looking at a whole lotta years in the penitentiary--it's just not worth the risk...of course, I do realize that sometimes you can't avoid a scrap on the street, & I've had my share as well...the best punch is a solid gut shot to incapacitate most untrained assailants

wow what a nice part of England you come from. I was there in 91-97 and didn't make it much out of the cities. Trapped in the London pub scene......will make it right next time I get there!!!

I'm 6f 6 and skinny af. My youngest is 6ft 9 and 23 and my eldest is 25 years old 6ft 2 and they are both amazing young men! I'm their Dad and obviously I could never hurt either of my boys. My eldest got a bit brave a year or so ago and he's stronger than I thought. I could never hurt my boy so just let him punch himself out. Respect to him for having a go through. He has Autism and he is my whole world just as my youngest is also my whole life!

Hi Matt, the lad looks like a chip off the old block on the pads and ive no doubt he's inherited your fighting DNA.Your relationship reminds me of my old fella and me ,tight knit with us both been able to in our respected times been known to have battled against the odds on numerous occasions enhancing our own reputations only against proven men but once him putting me back to reality when i once got big for my boots in my late teens lol.

A young man's fire! and having been on a bender yourself you showed great self control even though it's your son some people would of stepped over the line and not shown that maturity in knowing what young men can be like especially after drinking and you being young yourself once upon a time, it's obvious to see how much you care about your kids 🙏🏻

Beautiful Matt, thankyou. My dad boxed. I remember a row in my bedroom when I was 15 swinging a limp telegraphed punch at him and landing on my bed. I watched him get old and die and I still wouldn't fancy my chances.

Fights with family always make you feel the worst the next day. My older brother cracked me because I was been an asshole (The drink talking). I deserved it. It's funny how family always leaves a good mark, I've got a nice scar through my eyebrow to remember that night. We made up the next day. I can't imagine how scary it is to knock your own son out. I'm glad you sorted it out! I wouldn't want to throw hands with you, even if I had to, 😅 Talking out your way of trouble is always number 1 priority, but if you're pushed too far, gotta throw that KO slap 🥊You've got those Bas Rutten open hands. Great story!

Greetings from Australia there Matt I’ve been binge watching your videos and loving the content. This video here touched me as I had the odd dust up here and there with my old boy over the years it was always when we were on the piss and always forgotten about the the next day. He’s no longer with us and I know he’d of loved your vid’s being a bit of a fighting man himself. Keep up the great work I’d love to hear your opinion on Danny Christie I’ve seen a couple of his fights now and I personally like the way he moves and conducts himself in the ring. The fight against Decca Heggie was a good watch. Cheers from Aus 🤛🏾🇦🇺🍺

Hiya Matt how ya doing my mate? I know exactly what you mean .. the only time things ever got nasty between my lad and I was after a few too many liquid refreshments, and it was a play fight that got out of hand. I was totally broken hearted too ... Jeeeesus. I bet you two would be a handful to split up lol. You're a top guy, Matt. Thanks for sharing this my man. Nufluv mate. Pete 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I've experienced the same situation with my father when I was in my late teens we had a little scuffle & then at 20 both of us drinking all day (Christmas day) we got into a proper fist fight & I got the better of him, I felt terrible, I won't go into our history, but either way your dad is your dad, I'm 56 now & you never forget, I had many street fights, pub fights & none of them bother me, hope your both OK, I sense some trauma in your voice talking about this & it's understandable as the dad, I'm a dad too, 2 boys 23 & 21 it would kill me if we ever got into a fist fight
