WAIT! !!!!! What is this? A rap song with meaning! Lyrics that don't repeat themselves over and over again. I don't here the word "bitches". I don't here about all the money he has. He actually speaks proper and sounds educated. Im not hearing any autotune. This is not what a rap song should sound like. What is this the 80's or 90's when hip hop and hip hop artists were worth listening to. Who does this Chuck D guy think he is????? OH YEA..... A true rap god, pioneer, a lyricist, MC, legend and still better then 100% of today's so called rappers. Somebody I am proud to listen to. THANKS PE.

"Got no problem if you approach me" - Hey Chuck, thanks for your time and honesty - we talked after your speech at Stanford years ago - we talked about the Armenian Genocide and it's connection to Black history - you immediately engaged and even invited me to hang out - one of those decisions I regret, I said I had to give my friend a ride. I should have given him the keys. Thanks for writing this. An appreciator since 1987.

Jealousy can cause people to do some frightening things. This is why I can appreciate people for who they are and not covet anything that they have that might appear to be better than what I have to the naked eye. A person could get themselves caught all the way up trying to catch up to somebody. All that glitters is not gold. Chasing that gold can leave you looking empty and soulless. For what? Just so you can feel better about yourself? Nah. A person has to feel good about themselves first and foremost before they can chase those goals, otherwise, you'll find yourself doing a whole lot of questionable stuff to the point where you look extra devious and horrible. Then come to find out, you'll lose your integrity, your soul, and yourself. And when people find out, everything you had in the first place is gone. That's not a good look. This is why I love the song Everything by Public Enemy. You can have everything if you just look at it. Look at yourself and be glad for what you have. Not the shiny things either. You have yourself. You have you. Your identity. Your experiences. Your integrity and honor. And your respect. This is why respect is important. If you do the kind of stuff that makes a person question your respect. Then nobody can respect you. As for me. I prefer respect. Anybody who has the chance to meet me in person knows that. And they see it. #LoveWork, #ImGoodYall #KeepYourSoul

Hey ya all! I wrote this long ass reply to someone asking about the lyrics at a certain part of the song. I thought I'd post it here, too. Because I just love this song and Chuck. And I know lots of ya'all do, too. So I thought you might want to see it. I apologize early for how long it is. ... If you're asking about meaning as well, I can give my opinion in the context of this song. It opens with the speaker listing all the things he doesn't have as a rapper. I say that because they are those things all the celebrities have that common people don't have. Then he contrasts those with what he and his band do have. They have family, friends, and community that they value. The value they place on the things he says they do have, is reflected in his force of voice. Because he delivers it like he is mad. He probly has had people (I picture some 19 year old, not knowing who he is talking to, saying to Chuck, "Well if you was some big time rapper where's your mansion, your limo, your bling?") say stupid stuff and questioning his status because they haven't ever met a celebrity with integrity. Actually, I don't even want to call Chuck D. a celebrity. He far exceeds that type. He is a true Star, born of the most furious processes in the universe, to create a beacon, a light that doesn't just shine, but raises up life in all forms, to become stars, too. Some people who have never met a true star, may have questioned him. So this song is his reply. What he says he does have is those people he loves and who value and love him. Many people who become celebrities have all kinds of stuff, but many say they have no friends or loves, because they can't trust anyone. They get lied to and taken advantage of all the time. So having those friends and family is important, more than most of us know. The old ones he speaks of are because Americans treat their elderly so badly. I don't know where you are from, but I know many cultures value their elderly. In Taiwan ( I think it is ?) they see their elders as divine gifts practically! So in the song he is reminding people to not neglect their old ones. Talk to them, for they are a treasure. One often doesn't become wise until at least 60. And even without wisdom, they still hold history. We can't know for sure if a book or newspaper is giving a description of a past event as it really happened, unless there are people to corroborate it. So those elders can connect you to a past. They bring it alive. I hope this all makes sense! Sorry this is so long. ☺️

thank god theres is Chuck. i wont accept no songs from people who has promoted the culture of "possessing things" all along, if they ever try to do such a touching verse. he's the only one i let my heart accept.
