Hi All, hope you have enjoyed the journey! I have the home charger today, just after I finished this video 🙌
It has cost a fortune on EV power and the Cake and food bill was quite a bit too!
What is your opinion surely .84p per KW is taking the Micky!
I will interested in your thoughts...

Daft cars???? 😅😅😅😅😅. I made a move to one of these "daft" cars. And let me tell you this, I went from £150 average monthly bill in petrol to £12.5 on an EV charger. Not to mention all other positive aspects of it. My wife wasn't sure about it and now she won't move back to ICE engines and, as she calls it, stupid gear boxes. All these KZbinrs with £60k plus cars have obviously not done their home work. He's waiting for a charger, dear me, a 3 pin plug charger. That's not suitable for that size battery and/or the miles he does daily. I use the same sort of charger but we do 10 miles average per day. And another thing is, unless it's a company car, everyone should be aiming at charging at home on a cheaper tariff. If not then yes, stick with petrol. This is coming from a guy (me) that used to be against EV cars not so long ago.

I just watched a video where a guy had purchased a Porche EV for £120,000 three years ago, he's had enough of it and wants to return to petrol, today his car is worth around £40,000. The dealer that has the car he wants wont take EV's part ex because the price is too volatile, more dealerships are starting to reject part ex EV's because once the car goes out of warranty an new battery can cost £20,000, a battery for his Porche is £40,000 plus labour. It appears that EV's seem to be a disposable product.

Please do not set the granny charger to 13A or 16A, the socket will likely burn as they are not designed for a sustained load at 13A and 16A is likely going to cause a fire. The granny lead you got should only draw 2.2 kWh at 10Amp and your onboard charger will then have some losses and so for each kWh in your battery, you will be using 1.1 kWh from the 3pin plug. @@Challengetheroad Do check. I had a socket that was fine for the odd toasted sandwich maker or charging AA batteries, and then I used it for an oil-filled radiator on low (400W) and noticed it was getting warm. Checked the socket, and one wire was completely loose and the insulation starting to discolour; a higher load would have caused real problems.

The charging company has to charge a higher rate per KWH to cover the losses. It's easy to think recharging an EV is like filling your car with gas. If it takes 13.0 gallons of fuel to fill an empty 13.0-gallon tank, then why wouldn't an empty battery with a capacity of 60.0 kilowatt-hours require 60.0 kWh to reach full charge? Because the battery is more complicated than a simple container. A rough expectation is that your EV may use as much as 12 to 15 percent more energy than what you add back to the battery. Some energy is written off to what's known as "transmission loss," some is converted to heat, and some is used to keep the battery at the right temperature during charging.

I have been asking the question with regard to how you know how much you're paying per kilowatt, there should be a display in the same way they do with petrol/diesel prices at filling stations. I drive a 13 year old Smart diesel, it costs me £21 ish a week for my 60 mile daily commute, I contemplated changing to electric, I don't have access to off road parking so I would be solely reliant on public charging and the infrastructure isn't there, then there's the cost of electricity, where you find "working" chargers, we have quite a few chargers in the area where I live but only two are connected to the grid, and the two that are connected, one hasn't worked for years according to an electric vehicle owner, how much does it cost? It doesn't say anywhere, electric vehicle driving is too complicated for many of the older generations, everything inside the vehicle is on computer screens, I struggle with this, but you need to be computer qualified to drive an electric vehicle, I'm of the older generation, I and many like me have always dealt in cash, if you haven't got it you can't spend it, we budget, with electric vehicles, you need a credit card, I wouldnt know how to use a credit card, I can't use many of these new technical parking meters that still take real money, the government are trying to enforce electric vehicles on us without the infrastructure, adequate training on computers to be able to use these vehicles and a way that everyone can pay, ive been with the same bank for just over 50 years and I have never had a bank card and i dont know how to use a bank card/card, its been made too complicated, I didnt have to drive so far to get to would give up driving, but there's no public transport to where I work and I have to work to survive, so I will keep my little diesel until the government force me to stop working or driving

There seems to be a lot of financial jiggery pokery going on with the companies running EV chargers. Sign up for the app and get a discount. Pay a monthly premium subscription and get a better discount. Pre-load your account with credit and get a discount. Petrol companies have never needed to do that. It all seems a bit fishy, like the charge companies don't want you to know how much your actually going to pay.

I just don't understand people who buy EVs and then complain about the problems they encounter. We all know what a vault of nightmares they are. I'm late 50s, everything paid off and I changed car last year. I bought a 2012 Peugeot 107 (a re-badged Toyota Aygo.) It cost me £4250. Full service history 57k miles. It does everything your money pit does only better. I get about 55 mpg, no road tax, parts are as cheap as chips, I can fill up at any garage in a matter of minutes and it's great fun to drive. Sure you can leave me for dust at the lights but I just meet up with you at the next set of lights or pull up behind while you're being delayed by the HGV doing 30mph. Each to their own but why people are spending telephone money on EVs or any car for that matter just baffles me.

If I were a business owner, and installed EV chargers, I would not want gov interference on how much I charge. And why should there be regulation? There is none for petrol or diesel, its charge what they think they can get away with. I can't help but think that because gov interfered with the market, it has been skewed in some way. Should have let the market sort itself out, like betamax / VHS cassette tapes, CDs, minidisks, the whole home computer market etc... the moment government interterferes with anything it just turns toxic.

The cure for high electricity prices is high prices. The high prices are encouraging so much investment in the charging network that we can expect the network to be overbuilt and prices to fall to much lower levels. It might take a couple of years to get there, but it will happen. If prices were capped by the Government, the network wouldn't get built out as fast, so it is good in the long run.

Yes I know they are slow (3.5kW) but it would save much of the pain going to public chargers but you will be able to use much cheaper overnight electric tarrifs. That said you have highlighted a problem with EVs for usersnot able to charge at home - the high cost of using the public charging network. Tesla owners will gleefully point out that they pay much less. For use nonTesla drivers, at least the Tesla chargeing network is being opened up to other EV owners. Do what you can in getting some sense in the the public EV charger pricing like what you are doing with JLR car insurance.
