The second version of the track is much more interesting, as there are some vocals by Jah Wobble on it. To my ears the rhythm track is the same one as on 'Metal Box' (with one short drum break mixed in mid-song), but there are different synthesizer overdubs on it and some interesting vocoder sounds. During the second half of the song Wobble sings something like "Being a socialist/under the cover" and ending the song with a repeated "Socialist, Socialist, Socialeeeest".

Man, this version is a lot better. Sure it's not as clean, but the extra synth line near the end makes it feel more complete. Still have respect for the final version.

Wobble's bass is more present in this version. Fave version.

hi bonzo, yes that was such a brilliant demo. very interesting. martin atkins states there is so much public image, unreleased material. for a short while no one could touch this band for innovation. i think levine was a perfectionist. a shame how they were not all happy together. thanks to folk like youtube has become a goldmine.

Most of the album was just them. Aside from vocals and lyrics, Lydon had very little musical input on this record. He is not a musician.

I like to think of 70s PiL as purely Wobble and Keith. Lyndon’s just there for the vocals.
