I'm spending 48 hours in the woods to scout and hunt some public lands whitetail deer with an archery tag. Taking the camper, and some saddle hunting gear, I'm hiking the woods looking for sign and coming back to cook and refuel at my mobile hunting base.

Pro tip to help with your back in the saddle. Get the MVP from tetherd. Also when you set up your sticks set them up about 15 degrees off of your platform. It will prevent the sketchy part of coming down. Much more natural

That's amazing you could hike out six miles and then be prepared to hike back six miles with a deer on your back.

I've never used a saddle, but I've used sticks and lock-on's for years. I never put the stand directly over the sticks. I'd put it off to one side or the other. Gravity still works, no need to test it!

when you transfer to and from the platform, set your tether at belly button height and use that to pull on to get down and up. I do that all the time as well as loosening my lineman for easier movement. it ensures also that if you fall youre tied into that tether when the lineman isnt secure. I learned this trick from an oldtime saddle hunter. Be safe out there and goodluck.

The acorns look like white oak. If there are still leaves on the trees look for rounded lobes vs sharp/pointy lobes. Rounded are white oak

Always put your stand/platform slightly to the left or right of your climbing sticks so its easier to step up or step down! I recently learned this the hard way over the last year or so lmao. 28:42

Check out “one stick(ing)” with the tree saddle, you’ll cut a lot of weight from multiple sticks and platform! I use a hawk helium stick and a platform attachment for the hawk stick (super tight budget), I also find it’s alittle safer repealing from the tree instead of climbing down! Let me know if you look into it!!

Most of that you are in looks like post oak, and they make clusters of acorns like you showed the camera.....live oaks are evergreens with little leaves, and red oaks normally don't have acorns in clusters...white oaks typically have gigantic acorns, like the size of a quarter.

You have to plan your climb. Put your platform where your strong side shot is where you expect the deer to come from. After that decision you position your sticks where you climb and transition to your platform from the side. I was scared for your nutsack seeing you go straight down like that.

When public land hunting I find you're more likely to be successful if you go to the lesser desirable places for hunters, because the deer have likely not been shot at in those areas vs the favorable trees for hunters. Especially with a saddle. Just like with bass fishing, get in where others won't and they're likely there
