Thank you Counsel Jenny : ) i wanted to add on to say here in Zambia, the executive consists of the president and cabinet ministers. The parliament also consist of the President and members of the parliament. The judiciary consists of Chief Justice and Judges as prescribed. However separation of power like advocated by the philosopher Montesque is to a lesser extent. As we see that the president has power to elect judges and remove them. The president also assent to bills which are drafted by the parliament. The president also has the discretion of prerogative of mercy. Since all his powers are derived from the constitution and the constitution is regarded as the supreme law of Zambia, scholars argue to say the president has too much power. And of course the rule of law is practical on paper but in reality it is cumbersome. The right to a free and fair trial is vague as we see that the president is immune from criminal and civil proceedings. Supremacy of the law is to some extent true. l submit.

Very interesting lecture! Would you mind providing us with some materials in regards to the Check and balances system? I am particularly interested in this area but cannot find proper analysis on the topic, with the exception of some hallmark cases like *Miller I* & *Miller II* , *De Keysers' Hotel* , *Fire Brigade case*, even *Shamina Begum* . All these cases highlight how the law making institutions interrelate , however do not explain how the *partial doctrine of trias politica* manifests as opposed to the pure doctrine of this principle debated by Ville . In short, could you please direct us to an academic debate on the separation of powers where is discussed the checks and balances mechanism? (Especially the judicial review and its remit in connection with the prerogative powers of the executive)
