Leonov almost didn't make it. He definitely had to think off the cuff for that EVA. He and the world learned some good lessons from that spacewalk. That whole mission was fraught with problems and it's amazing they made it back at all. Good job guys. Thanks PSB for the great music.

There was a documentary on about the Russian space race recently and it almost went tragically wrong for Alexey Leonov when the pressure blew his suit up so much he couldn't get back in the air lock. He had to remove a glove to reduce the pressure and fit back through the door, which also raised the air temperature and started to cook him. Brave bloke. The Russians covered it up of course, propaganda and all that.

Heard something on the radio about this. To add to the story, he was meant to re enter his spaceship forwards, despite removing a glove to reduce the pressure inside his spacesuit it was still too swollen for him to fit through the hatch. He had to rethink and get inside bottom first, using his considerable physical strength. An adaptable, intelligent, resourceful, strong and flexible chap. The person relating this tale was the first British woman (Helen Sharman) in space. She had received some training from him, as she flew to space with the Russians.
