In this video, I'll show how I clean up these crusty spoke wheels and restore some shine to them.
Tools I use is a cordless drill. A wire wheel bit in two different sizes.
When I'm done removing the crust and rust with the wire brushes, I use some polish on the chrome. This doesn't make the wheels shine like new, but it's a much better improvement over a rusty look.
In total, it took about 15 min to do the front wheel. Might have been faster if I wasn't recording. You don't have to remove the wheels from the moped to do this. I recommend this for any of the chrome with rust on your mopeds. I use the same tools and methods for cleaning forks, handlebars, racks, and chrome trim.
You can also use a hand brush, too. You don't need a drill. I keep a brass bristle hand brush in my toolbox. I've used it to clean up chrome as well. It works just as good. I do recommend a drill with a wire brush if the rust is real thick and rough. The power of the drill will help break up the rust.
Give it a try and let me know what you think. Let me know what your go-too for removing rust is.
