The movie version made my heart sink and sent chills down my spine. You can hear how Sayaka is breaking and you can see she's not just a psycho, she's just really broken hearted and depressed. The opera version of Decretum does an excellent job emphasizing Sayaka's feelings from her perspective. This is why I prefer the movie version, the last 3 times I saw the TV version I just thought she was insane and nothing else. I love Decretum but in my opinion Witch World #2 did a better job showing how Sayaka really feels from all her pain

Desa Iree Mhm. Am aware some people prefer the film take on it. At least it's nice that there are two versions with a different flavor to the scenes (The film and blu-ray). But in general I prefer the blu-ray as a few of the film's changes just irk me. From the music in Sayaka's fight (admittedly not the worst change I find). To Walpurgis Night which I found a bit over produced. Like new explosion sounds (and strangely sounded like firecrackers) which were far less intense and the new, echoing laughter seemed to not be as in-touch with the scene, making it annoying.

I saw the scene in the anime, and it was really shocking. I didn't say a word, though. Now I rewatch it here, and with all the new detail, it just made me say "Daaaaaayum!" Sayaka's laugh really added to it. The vocal version of Decretum also seemed quite fitting, given Sayaka's mental state at the moment. If they had also had saved space for Madoka to say an anguished "Stop...please...stop..." like in the tv series, that would have topped it.

This comment is old. But why did this never occur to me? I figured she was so fed up with the scumbags on the train - and her extreme views, her naive notions about people in the world, crumbling apart - enabled her to forgo her morales, and regardless of her power would've probably killed them anyway. This was the dark side of Saiyaka's good nature. She got a taste of power fighting kyoko. She incited violence at "unjust" magical girls because they weren't like Mami, who gave a crap about the people getting affected or eaten by witches and familars in her city. Problem was she took it to the extreme, lashing out in anger - as she is still grieving, desperately trying to hold to Mami's memory and teachings - unwilling to accept any other girl that wasn't like-minded or willing to see differently.

This is without a doubt the most tense and frightening scene in the entire anime. The way Sayaka cuts the witch's head, with blood splashing on her clothes, she continues to slash her sword at the witch violently and starts laughing in that terrifying way. It was the second time I terrorized, the first was in the third episode.

You know, this scene was pretty twisted already, but it can be even worse. How ? Simple : Elsa Maria, a witch supposed to kill humans and leads them to suicide, have a religious theme and, according to Inu Curry's production notes (that you can find on the Puella Magi wiki, Elsa Maria's page especially), was born from "a girl" that "has become a mahou shojo to save the world" and that wanted to help. On the other hand, you have Sayaka, a magical girl supposed to kill witches in order to save the world, that went mad to the point of brutally killing a witch because she's basically an empty shell (or a puppet) that couldn't have the actual thing she wished for : the love of the one she sacrificed herself for. While still doing what they're supposed to do, Sayaka became much darker than a witch and Elsa Maria was shown to have brighter beliefs than simply "killing humans for personal reasons".

i think the thing that makes the part where Sayaka is beating Elsa Maria to a pulp so much more brutal is the way they frame Sayaka's swings as blunt attacks its like she's given up on trying to swing her sword properly so its not cutting through, only bludgeoning Elsa Maria over and over again

I think the most missed details is about the reactions of Elsa Maria. ... Aside from her lore, Elsa Maria is not necessarily attacking or retaliating, but literally pushing away or holding back everyone attacking her. She hesitates when Kyouko appears, which gives Sayaka the chance to cut off her physical head, but then Sayaka keeps attacking, chopping her physical body down, so Elsa switches to trying to push or hold her back, even in a "hug" in a response to Sayaka's break down. She stops right before Sayaka stops, but is gone right before Sayaka heals... Which is the nature of Sayaka's healing ability

@@DY2727 in the magia record event they explain her backstory Nagisa is a little girl who's mother is sick in the hospital her dad is never home and the house is filled with garbage one day she meets kyubey she turns him down on his offer she buys a bunch of cheese for her mom and plans to visit her she talks with kyubey and on her way home she encounters a witch the witch is promptly defeated by a faceless magical girl named yu or the sleepwalking ghost a girl who cant tell the difference between dreams and reality, or humans and witches she also has a list of (bad guys) she talks with Nagisa and kyubey tells her to avoid yu another faceless magical girl (I forgot her name) who kyubey wants to mentor Nagisa is included in the story kyubey tell her to meet him at the park she doesn't show up Nagisa asks if he told her he brought along Nagisa he answer no Nagisa goes home it is revealed that she was hiding in the shadows the whole time she asks kyubey about Nagisa he tells her shes a candidate for becoming a meguca she tells kyubey shes too young Nagisa thinks about her wish at home and decides she wants to wish to cure her mom she goes to the hospital with the cheese and her mom tells her how disappointed she is in Nagisa, she then realizes her mom is abusive and decides to wish for a delicious cheese cake to spite her mom as to say I could have saved you but I wished for a cheesecake instead yu and mentor girl fight because her boyfriend is a bad guy (there is an Easter egg btw her boyfriend's name is sho the same sho sayaka met on the train) mentor girl says those bad things about him are just rumors much later mentor girl goes to the hospital and witches out Nagisa trys to fight her but fails and passes out yu defeats the witch and then stabs Nagisa's mom yu realizes thats her mom and says you can still save her and these are her mom's last words: Nagisa is that you? Call a nurse a monster stabbed me. It looked human but it had a horn. Nagisa? ... Nagisa? No answer. Nagisa? Na- gi- sa? It was a warm day it happened when she became a witch and no one knew or noticed she was gone...

Funny thing is I just fought her in the PSP game (there's a Madoka Magica PSP game but it was only ever made in Japanese. I got it a few days ago...also I can't read Japanese so I have to use a translator so that's fun...) and you are _VERY_ unlikely to kill her with Sayaka (or at least not on a first playthrough) because by the time you get to her Sayaka's soul gem will likely be completely dark which means that 1. You can't use magic and 2. You do scratch damage so you'll probably end up killing the witch with Kyoko instead. Just found that kind of ironic.

What she said has a double meaning. Kyubey tells Sayaka eariler that she could fight more efficently by controlling her own body so that she doesn't feel pain even when injured. But Sayaka is also drowning out the pain in her heart caused by losing Kyousuke to Hitomi, by focusing on her work as a puella magi.

For example, in this scene, the addition of blood splatter as she hammers Elsa Maria into a pulp is not necessary. In fact, it feels superfluous and lessens the psychological impact. Hey look! Blood! Other Sayaka-related changes in the movie I do not appreciate are the removal of Sayaka's single line of regret after telling Madoka to not follow her as she dashes off into the rain, the removal of Sayaka's scream shortly after her transformation into a witch, and Kyoko's stream of blood instead of Kyoko and Sayaka's essence mingling together before Kyoko's sacrifice. Those were such iconic scenes in the original series. Why were they changed? T-T And I can't believe how hollow and empty her infamous line, "Atashitte, Honto Baka" sounded in the theatrical version. >_< I still enjoy the movie. But it could have been so much better. IMHO.

I will admit that upon closer inspection the blood is a bit over the top in this scene, but regardless you cannot in any right mind tell me that the animation in the original tv broadcast was ANYWHERE near as good as the BD and Movie version's. The tv version's just feels really sluggish and nowhere near as serious as this one. So to reiterate, i understand the blood complaint, but even with the blood i'd take the BD/Movie version over TV Version any day. Anyway as far as other scenes, Sayaka's death scene is kind of odd because i like aspects of all 3 different versions. I like how in the original tv version she is a bit more mobile and not as 'zombie' like as in the other two. I like in the third one how just over the top and intense the scene is (friggin goosebumps it's so intense), and i like how in the BD Version it still keeps the extremely sad vibe from the TV Version but the animation is touched up and feels like the TV Version with some of the intensity from the Movie Version. Really can't say which one i prefer, after listening to them one after the other, i think that the voice acting in the TV and BD version for that scene are the same, but i might be wrong. I edited in the Movie death scene in the place of the regular in the BD version to see how it feels in comparison, and i would actually say that when in the context of an episode, the movie version is the best as it leaves an already insanely intense episode off with crazy opera, chanting, absolutely insane visuals, and then a plot twist reveal, and then cuts to the amazing magia ending and practically screams at you "you've never wanted to hit the next episode button faster in your life amiright?" Overall though, i'd say that other than the original TV release (which after looking at some iconic scenes from, i would say is flat out inferior to the BD Version) both the BD version and the movie version are absolutely fantastic and unless you're like me and have seen every different version multiple times and you know what all the scenes look like and are effectively analyzing the tiniest side character movements in every scene, it really doesn't matter at all whether you watch the BD or Movie. TL;DR Both the BD and Movie versions are fantastic. Not TV version though, can't go back to worse animation quality after watching the higher quality version. :\

Fabbrizio Calamitous [Spoiler - Because Im a good person] Yeah that is true, the original tv version does a bettter job with the emotional side of its scenes. Sayaka's death in particular where she doesn't just look like a zombie, she actually looks like kind of a forlorn person who at the very end, after the point of no return, has realized her mistakes. Where in the other versions, it doesn't have that same feeling. With this scene in particular though... I feel that it works better as a "oh sh*t she is going crazy" kind of scene rather than being an emotional scene. Aaaaaaand under this assumption the better fighting animation makes the blu-ray or movie better. Yeah it does have a different feel, but i kind of just prefer the blu-ray/movie feel to the tv release. But yeah i can definitely understand why you would prefer the original. In all honesty my opinion of what is good and what is bad in Madoka is ridiculously skewed because iv'e actually watched the series a total of 9 times (More if you count the amount of times iv'e just watch its iconic scenes on youtube.) Because of that... i probably look at the show in less of an emotional way now than i used to, so maybe it is better with the original animation... I have no idea lol But yeah favorite show of all time soooo.... i don't really care the version the show is f*cking fantastic. Also don't judge me for watching it so many times, I DONT HAVE A PROBLEM (i actually do i should really stop, i'm just bored sometimes and say "hey why dont i watch madoka?..... Yeah its a problem)

she was most likely a really religious person who always prayed for the war ( most likely world war two ) to end , so much that her wish may have been for it to end , this theory is supported by the fact that the ruins in her barrier say " although I can't see you I wish you well " meaning that her wish was just like sayaka and kyoko's wishes ( they were for someone else not for herself ) and since it said " although I can't see you " it means her wish included several people thus implying that her wish was for WW2 to end ( since it was one of if the not THE most devestatinh war in American history )

I know everybody relates more to Sayaka... But I relate to Homura, her mortal enemy, the most. When I was Sayaka's age, I didn't want to be a hero. I wanted to rule the world like an Empire. These days, I want to rule the world in the shadows or at least come out ahead of everybody else. And you know the worst part ? I think some girls such as Anne Frank should still have been allowed to become Witches. Why spare the Nazis and those like them ? It's in the TV series and in the Movies. Get the TV series instead, since the movie version cuts out a lot of "filler" (background scenes and side stories) an has a lot of unnecessary censorship. Most notably Madoka's farewell to Homura where these long flowing gowns were shoehorned in unnecessarily. Only plus is Witch World 2 was a better choice for the scene (It's Decretum in the TV series).
