Caught in a rip at Zipolite Beach, Puerto Escondido in 1986. Was a little concerned with the drowning risk. hee hee. This was the first beach in Mexico to get lifeguards, I think in the 1990's. Powerful surf on a south swell.

I surfed huge Puerto back in the 80’s & there was just 2 of out & no lifeguards. It is extremely hollow & breaks as hard as Pipeline & I’ve been bounced off of the bottom a few times. We had no floatation vests, only a large set of balls. It is pretty damn spooky out there when it’s big.

I don't mean to bust your bubble but Escondido is a summertime break getting swells from the southern hemisphere. It's flat in December. You will still have a great time. The mountainous beauty of the place is overwhelming. Waves like these are extremely dangerous.
