These aren’t really hidden gems but El Jibarito, a restaurant in Viejo San Juan has the best food I’ve ever eaten and Playa Montones which is a beach in Isabela is one of my favorites and is great for snorkeling. I’ve been there twice, first time I went I stood in Isabela and the second time i stood in Humacao, this time I’m going for two weeks so I’m staying one week on the east and one week on the west.

A very quite neighborhood. They also have a wonderful art market with locals dancing and live music every Wednesday. A very authentic local experience. Playa Montones was a wonderful long stretch beach, but a little rocky and crowded at some days, anyways absolutely beautiful 🏝 We wanted to include something of the beaten track into our top 10 list, hope you find it useful ❤️

Great idea! Ponce is full of history and great atmosphere on the main plaza at nights. If you go to El Jibarito again - try their famous “jibarito” - it’s very uniquely Puerto Rican and was absolutely delicious 😋

Hi Marie, we spent almost a month in Puerto Rico and had a pleasure to drive through all the major roads. If we remember it right, Lares was a pretty small town in the mountains with some plantations of coffee. Not sure if there was something specific we were supposed to visit there, we seemed to just drive passing it on our way to some waterfalls. Pls let us know what we should add to our next trip!

And on our way back we took ferry which is 45 min but tickets can only be bought online ahead of time. And we also booked a golf cart to move around the island. Hope this helps! 👍🏻

Hi Andrea, most tourists stay at Condado where all nightclubs and restaurants are. It gets pretty loud and crowded with a Miami Beach vibe. You may also stay around Playa Isla Verde for a family calm vacation or choose to stay at the Old Town if you have only a couple days and would love to walk around. If you have a car and would love to stay with less tourists - you may look around Dorado Beach, Luquillo or even Isabella (it’s far away but very safe and calm area). You’ve got lots of options :)

You need a car to get to these places. PR is about the size of SI. Convenience should be prioritized when you choose the best places for vacation.

Definitely you need a car to explore the island. We rented a car for 3 weeks that we spent in PR and that was the best decision. We could stay at less crowded non-tourist areas and enjoy more privacy and explore the whole island 🏝

@@CheckerTravel that is like a sad 😞 burger with no dressing. PR should build a bullet train 🚅 to explore the small island in 2-3 hrs not in 2-3 weeks.

Too many places to explore it in 2-3 hours. We spent at least a day around each 1-2 beaches only. You will not see much or feel the local vibe from the seat of the train. At the same time, they indeed do not have any public transportation around the island. When asked, the locals explained that there is simply no enough demand for it. They used to have some buses and trains, and those were mostly empty. You could explore some major spots in a week. We just had time and desire to spend three weeks around :)

I would love to go to my grandparents island, but years ago my experience was not great at all, my own people didn't accept me as a New Yorker Puerto Rican I was made fun bc I didn't know spanish, went to a social club there that was giving a party, a friend took us .The party was for an artist some old guy named Maso Rivera. As I was telling my friend how good the food was in English the man got on the microphone and insulted us and claimed we were talking about the people there in English. My own, sure, I swore never again that I would go back, that was 85 still didn't go back. Never will. Proud to be a New Yorker 🇺🇲 its a shame other spanish cultures accepts me even though I only speak English.

Natives (old folks) back in the days had reservations towards Nuyoricans bc they had the bad boy look, cocky attitude😂they were commonly judged. But that has changed. Just some constructive criticism, you should learn how to pronounce the names of the towns: “Yauco”, is pronounced Jauco, not Yuca, that’s a root. “Ponce” is pronounced Ponse, not Ponche, that’s a drink made w/ egg yolks, sugar and milk. “El Yunque” is pronounced Junke, not “unke”. Not criticizing, just trying to help, I know you don’t speak our language. Oh, it’s Puerto Rico, not Perto Rico. Great video, you highlighted some great sites and the camera work is remarkable.

As most tourists come to San Juan only, we wanted to show some great places we discovered around the island during our 3 weeks trip.
