Everyone’s favourite seabird is back at Sumburgh Head for the summer, and it just wouldn’t feel like summer in Shetland without them!
Puffins - known locally as Tammie Nories - are Shetland’s national bird, and these comedic little critters are an iconic symbol of our islands, and draw huge crowds to our clifftops.
Sumburgh Head, at the southern tip of the Shetland mainland, is one of the best places anywhere in the British Isles to see them up close. The cliffs are a designated RSPB reserve, where they and many other bird species can thrive.
There is also a fantastic lighthouse and visitor centre, complete with cafe, at the top of the cliffs, and the whole site is incredibly accessible, with a brand new wheelchair-friendly hide opened this year too.
