Thanks Chef John, whipped these up tonight. Very simple, and they were great--my Mom says there's nothing I could possibly have done to make these better. I ended up taking a long spatula and pinning it down in the center for that taco shape. Your method was probably more practical, but I just couldn't bring myself to break the shell. Love your videos, I've been practically binge watching since I rediscovered you last week.

Chef, these looked delicious! BTW Masa harina is just spanish for corn flour, so either all english or all spanish (wink wink). Also, a tostada is open face, a taco is folded in half and a burrito is folded in 3rds. = ) ole!

instead of poking a hole in the middle, you can also cut a side of it and stuff it like a "gordita". Here in my city they call it "gorditas fritas" and we never put sour cream. We put the stuffing, some lettuce, tomato and salsa! these are amazing!!

There is a resteruant in Point Pleasant,Nj ( A mile from the Ocean ) close to Seaside Heights called "FINS" The place iinside s painted in a tropical / carribean/ surfer theme with blue skies,oceans,coconut trees , and clown fish. The exterior is just as fun to look at. ANYWAY, they serve ALL kinds of tropical cuisine and exotic smoothies but my favorites are their tacos. Last week I was working in the area and had to stop in and have some goodies they're . 1 was a crab taco and the other was a tuna taco.Don't know the rest of the ingredients but it was SUPERB ! 👍 Awesome ! if anyone that reads this lives in New Jersey you have to stop in in Point Pleasant New Jersey and try this place there's no alcohol served so it is a family setting but it's fun to be there they have a big aquarium where kids can watch the fish swim around but their food is very fun and very exotic. Yum 😋 !

This is exactly how I've had them in south Texas. Best with carne asada in the middle and topped with the cabbage, cotija cheese, lime crema and salsa. Top how you like with tomato, onion, guacamole, cilantro, or other topping of your choice. Serve with grilled lime wedges.
@ssmoot788 жыл бұрын
It would be awesome to see you do a Navajo Fry Bread Taco. Think of a thick fried naan sort of thing? But no char and deep fried chicken brown. Typically served with a whole bean and ground beef chili. Gotta have the white onion and green chiles. Then pile on the cheap home taco toppings: diced tomatoes, iceberg lettuce (no such thing as a Navajo taco with romaine!), grated cheese, more onion, some cheap picante or chile sauce. Brings me back to school lunches in northern NM. Mexican street tacos are great, but a good Navajo Taco is about as authentically American as you can get. I recommend everyone add it to their bucket list. 😊

There is a small cafe near me that has made tacos like this for more than 50 years. A woman once admitted to me that she drives 175 miles twice a year to eat their tacos. They're that damned good. ☺
