They not supposed to be safety for the responder! They are to identify that it is a vol fire responder to motorists! They are not emergency vehicles. I am not a expert of Ontario Vehicle and Traffic Law, where I live 🔵&🟢lights are considered "Courticy Lights" to let the public know that the volunteers are responding to a call! No running red traffic 🚦 light or 🛑 s. No speeding over posted speed limits or passing in no passing zones! Chief 's personnel vehicles can have Red🚨lights & 📢 but , that's it!!! Vol Fire fighters are not equipped to do anything until the apparatus is on the scene, with equipment, for the emergency! But some local officials may think it's safe to hand out permission to allow red light - siren volunteers. Just as long as they are going to pay for anything that could happen, while responding!!

Issue with greens is they are not universally adopted. Some places just use them for municipal vehicles for added visibility, others for volunteer responders. It adds confusion

@@amazonbox5551 The idea of cardiac responders is that they are already nearby to the incident and can therefore arrive before a ambulance arrives most of the time without blue lights they aren’t travelling long distances in order to get to a call and all of them are volunteers I’m a community first responder in the UK which is slightly different but essentially the same (from what I can find they are just members of the public who register on a app) Where as in the uk we are fully part of the ambulance service and respond to more than just cardiac arrests but we are still volunteers and the furthest I’ve had to travel is two miles to get to a scene

German volunteer fire/rescue here, in my personal opinion, I think "every second counts" is stupid. I've done this stuff for about 10 years now and most of the time it's not about seconds, but about minutes. 1 second doesn't change much in an emergency. A minute can change everything. I still get why "every second counts" is used so much, because in heavy traffic those seconds add up quickly. Still I can't count how many times people have actually gotten angry with me for taking the time to look at the pager before standing up to leave, or for jogging to the car instead of sprinting because "I thought every second counted????" Like yes, of course you should hurry, but it doesn't matter how fast you would have been, if you never arrive because you trip and fall, or crash the car. Also it doesn't help anyone if I arrive at the scene and have to take a minute to catch my breath. Also about the "looking at the pager" you can't imagine how incredibly helpful it is to be able to prepare yourself on the ride to the station mentally for what you're about to see. Just so you can remember the part of your training that will become important in the next minutes.

That and like every second very young volunteer firefighter here in Germany is the reason that I vote "no" on every petition for "Give us the green lights in Germany!" I made a dumb decision back in the day, fortunately nothing bad happened. But I agree with the german phrase "Eile mit Weile" whish roughly translates into "rush slowly" Like you said, most of the time it is not about seconds.

This is the dumbest thing I've heard lately. If the responders need Code 3- then put red lights and a siren on their cars, folks know how to act around that. Making the population "learn"" to yield to green is nonsensical and asking for street fights.
@peterpotvin65032 күн бұрын
Green lights here in Ontario are for volunteers responding either to the scene or to the station in their personal vehicles. It's not a requirement under the Highway Traffic Act for drivers to pull over for them, however it is common courtesy to. Those using green lights still have to obey other road traffic laws such as speed limits, stop signs, red lights, etc.
@T_2102 күн бұрын
@@peterpotvin6503 That's exactly my point. It creates a mass of confused drivers needlessly. Put red lights and sirens on the vollie cars and everyone (should) know its an emergency vehicle- enforce the laws that address that. A 'new" color (one less bright by the way) is stupid- there is no advantage to using that color. None. Well, ego maybe?
