As someone who has worn a corset quite a number of times while singing or performing, I can tell you that it is actually easier to sing in a corset than without one simply because it forces you to breathe right. Also better posture equals better breathing and such.

It's actually not hard, sometimes easier with a corset (assuming you have it on right and not cinched so tight it crushed your ribs and organs). it helps with posture, which helps with breathing and helps your breathe through your diaphragm instead of your chest

Why DID this professional tour have a wig budget of about £20? Entirely done with acrylic hard-fronted wigs...that is just cheap.

The Spin Doctor ok good i’m not the only one thinking this haha 😆
@oswinaltava3 жыл бұрын
This is completely a guess from someone who doesn't work in theatre, but maybe using those wigs was easier for storage and transporting them since it was a tour, maybe the typical lace-front wigs were damaged too easily? I know they used lace-front for the original promo shots, but maybe when they do the second UK tour (was meant to be summer 2020 but who knows when it'll be now) they'll change them
@griffins56553 жыл бұрын
@@oswinaltava most likely something like this, I mean I work in a highschool theater where we only do two performances of each show, and yet by the end of it quite a few of our costumes need to be resewn, but every time we use cheaper but stronger material (including for wigs) our costume department seems to always have to do less work then with the better looking but more delicate fabric, and I feel like this would be doubly so with a tour, although I might be totally incorrect I don't know.

I love everything about this UK production, the costuming, the setting, the performers. However, the tempo is slightly slower than the american version which I do not like. The verse where Wednesday is listing all of these happy "normal" things is suppose to be extremely fast and her body should be losing control as if she were having a seizure from all of the goodness taking over her soul. But really other than that Carrie is truly wonderful.

It's a pretty easy pattern and made with a type of iridescent fabric (blue - black) with I believe one petticoat underneath and hemmed in black. The corset is a basic black one with a velvet lining and one row of buttons, with a semi adjustable back in female finish. In some versions the corset has black embroidered pattern too (not here). A very similar corset can be found on wish if you want a cheap one or don't want to make it yourself.

I love Carrie's voice and thing she's super talented. But everytime she does an American accent it's off. Especially with her as Veronica in Heathers. I just feel they rely on her voice for casting, which again she nails. But her acting and accents are off. She does what a lot of beginner actors do, they wonder on the stage and use their limbs weird since they don't know what to do with them. She also seems to wait to give her lines, rather than make it seem like a conversation.
@anonymousp80245 жыл бұрын
krazykittymatt her acting is fantastic in le mis, I just feel she kind of misses the mark on this
@kieraespey42005 жыл бұрын
She only does the weird movemts in this role because her character is meant to be insane. Also, she has a director so they would have obviously not been her choice. They just ass to the character. If you watch her in anything else you see that she doesn't do the weird movements and is fully in character. The accent doesn't sound natural because she has a very posh, British voice so struggles to change her vowel modification and enunciation of words. However, she's working on it and does an incredible job of everything she puts her mind to.
@bobfletcher81964 жыл бұрын
Kiera Espey exactly correct the director would have given direction to how he wanted Carrie to act throughout the song.
@poppiejoy4 жыл бұрын
I feel like in musical theatre, any accent will be ‘unnatural’ sounding because it’s meant to be overplayed. I think maybe because we are used to hearing natural American accents on broadway that we assume it will be exactly the same anywhere else in the world.. I often think, as a british person, that british accents (of any region) can be horribly overplayed but it’s the point. Just think of Mathew Morrison in Finding Neverland.. his Scottish accent wasn’t the best but it was good enough for musical theatre. I think her acting in this is exactly as it is meant to be for this particular show - weird and kooky.
@PetitChouPumpkin4 жыл бұрын
Kiera Espey I think we’d have to determine what you mean by weird. I’d not actually call them weird, but that she doesn’t look comfortable or connected to her body. It’s a hard thing to describe, but it’s just not there quite yet. I ditto with what someone said about this being the case with young actors and I totally agree. If you aren’t a “character actor” doing a role like this, without a lot of movement training (not dance, actors movement and body work) it will be foreign, and that’s what reads as “weird.” In Les Mis, those aren’t “character actor” roles (other than the Tenardiers sp?) and so being in your own skin is easier. Again this is something really hard to understand, but maybe those of us who do have this training tend to notice when others aren’t doing it.

But that’s because stud humor here in the states has funnier to us then over there. The humor isn’t so raw. I just feel like this could of been way better. And NOT because it was “ press day “ it’s a director thing.

Never saw Carrie live in performance... but more and more I see her acting (you know I have my ways) I feel like her style is very theathrical. I don't think she is right for movies, she is a bit to much in movements etc. Same with Veronica. Like it is not acting but performing. I think on stage its ok, but wonder how she would act in movies or just normal play not the musical
@rebekahsegun83193 жыл бұрын
Well she's not auditioning for a movie is she? She's never shown any interest in being in movies and doesn't look to be set to star in any any time soon, so why is that relevant? Yeah no shit her acting is theatrical- because she's acting in a MUSICAL, in a THEATRE. That's a GOOD thing. If she were acting in a more movie-esque way, she would be more wooden and soulless. Movie acting and stage acting are to different things.
