I must have walked that stretch of canal a 1000 time while living close by, and only once or twice did I see a fish coming out. However the lake you passed on the way in, Lakeside country park, was a day ticket place with the Hartley Wintney angling ass. Not sure if that's still the case though. Been getting on 15 tears since my last visit. Also shallow, and with some good bream, carp, pike, and various silvers to aim for. No monsters. I fished lakeside many times, and found it to be a place that's either on, or off. I had a pike on a chocolate boilie in there once. further along that canal to the west is where I landed a PB bream, that was sadly smaller than the one you had on this trip. It was caught on 2lb line, 18 hook, single castor and stunned all that were there with a 7lb 1oz. An area called Eelmoor flash, just at the end of the runway of Farnborough airport. Again it's been years since my last visit and things might have changed. That was popular with carp anglers at the time. Anyway, I have a dog to walk, and a Mrs nagging (reminding) me to do so. Thanks for another chill time John. TTFN

Oh I remember those days, too, Shaun 😄 I was only a nipper in the 70s, but even in the 80s we always used brown crumb for bream at places like Worsbrough Reservoir near Barnsley. White crumb for the rivers as it was a bit stickier. I even did a video on how brown crumb can be as effective as fish meal on the channel - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqSnoJyprcqJaqMsi=zk8YBxjOw28HxVXC. But I must say I still think some modern groundbaits, particularly oily ones, have extra pulling power in some situations, like when the weather warms up, or on commercials where the fish have been raised on pellets. I still buy big bags of crumb when I can though. Thanks for watching and commenting! Tight lines 🎣

Howdo John, that bait looks a good un. Spent an hour or so Saturday mixing my own concoction of Chick peas, a few lentils, garlic, sweetcorn, half a loaf of white toasty loaf, gingernut biscuits, a dash of hemp & a good dose of my own sag aloo powder & a touch of cornflower to bind it nicely. It'll smell like Smethwick high street( I'm not being derogatory, I love the smell) wether the fish like it remains to be seen, but I'll know tomorrow. Cracking old bream. Tightest of lines🙏🪱🐟🎣

@themagicoffishing But, will it put fish on the bank for me?? I like to experiment & do it cheaply, Its been quite good for bream up to now, but carp are slim pickings recently. All said a day on the bank is bliss. All the best marmate 👍

Just a thought on that groundbait John and that is that it might be too pokey with all those flavours. It is possible to over power a gb with too much flavour. Its something we were guilty of in the early days of making our own boilies back in the mid to late 70's.

Sound advice, Neil, although I caught well on it this Sunday and have faith in that mix. Only in the warmer months of course, but I do like a bit of extra fish meal and oil once it warms up. Know what you mean about overdoing it with flavouring though and as an ex fishery manager (and big fish angler) you should know.

Nice work! I hear it can switch on like that when they’re in the mood, but not always easy as you say. They do love dead reds too - today sounds like a case of the right man, with the right method, on the right morning 👍🎣
