@themagicoffishing2 күн бұрын
I believe it’s 100% natural and a couple of club members have said as much - feeling as happy about its appearance as I did. No recent stockings that I’m aware of and it was so small it had the feeling of being a survivor from last year’s spawning 👍

I’ve always preferred my evenings, although I do get up relatively early for my northern club matches each summer a do a 360-mile round trip each weekend to fish them. That’s dedication after 25 years of living in the south! But wait until you see the next vid on here - I managed to get up early again and really enjoyed it!

I think there's always something super special about catching babies of huge fish. Baby carp are just stunning, especially the mirrors, and as you've shown here, baby barbel are equally as stunning. That's a cracking gift from your wife. She clearly love you. My better arf has provided gifts over the years that have so often made my day. But one gift she gave that never sops giving was er hand in marriage some 39 years ago. I know, soppy and cheesy, but honest. Next month I have surgery on my eyes, and that should hopefully permit me to read, tackle up, and paint pictures once more. Yet another time shared in your virtual company that did wonders in pushing the stress of the day to one side. For which I give you thanks. Take care John. TTFN

She not only keeps me on my toes but knows how important my fishing is in my life. I’m glad you’ve had similar success in the romance department and it’s great to hear your eyes will soon be able to behold her - and the tip of a float - much better. My dad likes to draw and paint and that’s another noble passion. God luck with it and hope the recovery is smooth ❤️🩹

Hi John. Great video as always. I used to fish the Kennet many years ago, standing in the water and trotting with a centrepin. My fishing mates thought I was daft when I said this, but when I was fishing well and I was “in the zone” all of my surroundings seemed to vanish except for the river, and I felt I was part of the river. It’s a feeling I never got when fishing from the bank. Your video brought back some great memories. May I also say that I know how much effort is involved in videoing, especially to the level that you are able achieve, and I’m really grateful for what you do.

Love it, Jim, and know exactly what you mean about becoming immersed in and absorbed by the river. Nice video. I was fishing in Ireland on a 100 acre lake for tench. 8lb line to 5lb hook length and 14's hook. A pike grabbed the 3 maggots and shot across the lake. It was hooked just in the scissors. Took me 1/2 hour to land the 14lb 3oz fish. Big fish can be caught on small hooks and light line. It just takes longer.
@themagicoffishing8 күн бұрын
Totally agree - and what a great ‘angling legend’ name you have! 😀 That’s an unbelievable achievement to land that double-figure pike but I also think it’s amazing what you can do with balanced gear. A forgiving rod is the main component and I’m all for using the lightest gear you can, other than when you are fishing near snags or actually targeting big fish. When I was a lad, fishing for Sheffield Juniors and learning from some of the amazing Barnsley Blacks match anglers, we would regularly be told to ‘fine down’ to 12 or even 8oz bottoms to target roach and perch on the waggler - relying on the spliced tips of our rods to cushion any lunges from better fish. But that was in the days before carp became almost ubiquitous of course. I’d love to fish in Ireland some day… Thanks for watching and commenting.

It’s always a great pleasure watching your videos, this video is the quintessential type of angling for me. Being disabled now means I can’t get out on the bank as often as I used to, but your videos take the frustration out of that quite a bit. I felt like I was on the other end of your rod, especially when you started fishing in the edge, the tension was palpable whilst watching. It’s also an absolute pleasure to watch your videos that don’t contain the ‘now acceptable’ foul language & profanities, that seem part of the majority of angling videos on here. Your placid voice also lends itself ideally to the surroundings & the pastime, perfectly. In short, I could watch your videos all day, to ease the frustration of me not getting out anywhere near as often as I would like. Thank You so much for bringing me so much pleasure & entertainment. 🎣👍🏻🎣
@themagicoffishing10 күн бұрын
Wow. This comment means a great deal to me because what you describe is exactly what I set out to try and do, even if it was unknowingly at the time 😄 Of course to begin with, you have no idea if your own fishing style and interests, never mind your VERY basic editing ‘skills’ and even your accent will appeal to anyone out there on KZbin… Or whether it might see most fellow anglers hitting 👎 😰 In other words, it’s a little bit daunting, but receiving feedback like this makes all the botched vids, blank sessions and long evenings spent hunched over a laptop more than worthwhile. Because my main aim with this KZbin channel, much like it was with the book, is to capture some of the magic feelings that fishing has always inspired in me and then share that magic with as many interested people as possible. For me, fishing’s the best thing in the world, up there with family, friends and nature - and, as you say, it can make you feel everything from moments of massive tension to moments of pure relaxation and bliss. I can only imagine the massive frustration and sadness caused by not being able to do what we both love as much as you used to, or want to. So I hope you can still manage some time on the bank with extra effort, assistance or the use of disabled swims for example. At other times, I’ll keep bringing you as much KZbin entertainment as possible, in amongst my busy work and family life, and I will really appreciate your ongoing views and comments. Thanks again for taking the time to share your story and all the best for now 🥰👍🎣🐟

@themagicoffishing10 күн бұрын
That sounds like a plan! I’m torn but with this recent rain I may try for barbel on the big day. The other option I was considering was the deep ‘flapper gate’ stretch between the ruined abbey and Walsham weir. Anywhere along there with either groundbait feeder and maggots, or stick float with hemp and caster should get you a few bites and there are loads of small fish as well as some good bream and chub. It fishes best early morning or evening of course. I’d be tempted to fish float down the margins and keep the feed going in little and often because it’s 10ft deep off the rod end there and it also avoids you reeling in every time a boat, paddle boarder, canoeist or swimmer comes by! The footpath gets busy during the day but everyone is friendly. Tight lines 🎣🤞

@@themagicoffishing Funnily enough don’t ever remember having to set alarms as I’ve a tendency to naturally wake up especially if a morning fishing session is in the offering. Only recently, last 2 years got back into fishing after a nigh on 50 year break, apart from a few months in 1999 when I was made homeless and stayed with a family who lived below Carn Marth, near Lanner, Redruth in Cornwall. It was visiting the cafe at Nance 2 years ago last May that I fell in love with the 3 small lakes there. Bought my rod license next day and was fishing 5am on the Thursday. I’d recently retired a year after my 65th Birthday with ‘burn out’ being a Mentor in the local secondary school, it was like refinding my roots. Just loved it, but so much to learn with the incredible changes that have happened in the intervening 50 years or so. Don’t get many opportunities to fish evenings as I’m main cook and bottle washer at home of an evening, but I’ll have to address that situation as evenings are such a beautiful time to be bankside, and the fish do tend to come on and feed. 👩🌾🫶🎣🌅👍
