Dude, you are a PRO. I've seen too many guys spend all day digging one stump with a 2-foot bucket. That ripper is boss.

This is the best method of removing stumps I've ever seen. Some gadgets cost thousands of dollars, are noisy like there is no tomorrow, far from being efficient and as slow as a sickness to go away, that's why I watch your show, it's intelligent and above all, entertaining. Bravo.

Perfect tool for that job. My trees were different, 80 year old live oaks with root balls 15 feet across. I had a 20,000 lb JD backhoe so I dug them up. I left the tree intact to use the trunk as a lever. Then I dug as close as I could and then concentrated on the side I wanted them to toward. One one I had to dig a huge hole under the roots so they had someplace to go. I attached a long cable from it to another tree and used a used a two ton cable puller to put tension on it. Then I was able to go on the other side and shove it over with the backhoe. I have a 10 acre rural property so I cut them up a bit and shoved them into the surrounding woods. I basically destroyed the digging bucket, ripping off three of the digging teeth.

After taking down two massive trees right next to my house (60 year old tulip poplar and 60 year old silver maple) this is how I’m going to remove the stumps. This is easily the best way I’ve seen to remove them, sure beats burning them out over the course of two weeks. You should’ve seen the purple in the poplar and the quilt/flame figure in the maple, it was unreal. Sold the maple log for $3000

Too rocky in Central Texas for that! You will snap the ripper tooth shank off! Been there done that! Knowing where and when to use one! Soil types and tree species have a lot in determining which piece of equipment for the job! Great work on your site! God bless you and stay safe! Rocks and brittle roots in the cab is very costly! That ripper is evil looking... and big enough to rotisserie a slab of Bronto ribs over a forest fire! You are right about breaking roots flick rocks at you. I had a small elm tree that I was digging out with my baby backhoe. The root was only about 1 1/2" diameter. I hung it with a bucket tooth and gave it a tug. It moved a little and the backhoe stalled out.... so, being the genius that I am... I backed off the dipper stick about a foot and pulled it toward me as fast as it would go. As soon as it hit about 3 feet of root flew up and flung a softball sized rock right at my head. Fortunately, I leaned to the side and threw my hand to ward it off in time. It bloodied my knuckles, then bounced harmlessly into the floor of my tractor. I got even by hurling a few choice words at it, afterward. Is your 160 about the same size as Brandon's new Koochie? Thanks for the enjoyable video.... nicey nice!

I've found out if you're running a larger ex like a 30ton plus you can rip the sides, then kind of stab the front and back. After that, if it still doesnt budge keep going beside it a little deeper each time and it will eventually start moving then you pull it on the back side. and it will turn out. If I can, I will to try to rip up all the roots without splitting the stump or removing too much of the roots. then when it pops out i lay it back down in the stump hole then work my bucket a few times and it shakes the dirt out pretty good. If it still has dirt in it ill stab it when its out of the hole, then let the loader guy drop it a few times. I Dont really like to shake it up in the air much, too much wear on pins. I find its best to stump in dry weather or wait til the dirt dries on the stump enough to get out all of the dirt. Wet mud does not come out of those stumps.
