Pulling The ENTIRE Drivetrain Out The Bottom Of My $3,500 Corvette

I bought this 2000 Chevy Corvette for just $3,500. It was driven through water and C5s love to suck it right up the intake and instantly hydrolock. The bumper design scoops the water right in. We did some quick troubleshooting, decided the car was getting an engine either way so it was time to pull it. I was going to try and pull it out the top but the Corvette guru said don't even think about it, drop everything out the bottom. Now ‪@TheFracturedRooster‬, John and I are going to rip it apart in about 5 hours total.

While I do recommend removing from the bottom if you have a lift available, I pulled my C5 engine once from the top and it was pretty painless. No issues with mating the torque tube at all. Labor wise, it's about the same amount of work. Just depends on your access to a lift on which way is preferable.

Talk about fun! People really don't understand how easy it is to do major work on C5s. Definitely change out the torque tube bushings while you are in there. It is well worth the work. It really is crazy how much work you can do in so little time with them. Also, an upgraded torque converter makes a huge difference in them, too.

24:00 In 2009, at the age of 58, I woke up at 4:30am one morning and said, "I'm going to build a car." Not having any auto mechanical experience was going to be daunting but when I make up my mind....................! I didn't start by taking the body off a VW Beetle and installing a dune buggy body, I started at the Top. To make a very long story short, I bought a Cadillac XLR drivetrain and suspension, turned the drivetrain into a mid-engine setup by cutting and welding together the torque tube bell housings, (Like I said, LONG story), and bolted the very long package to a fiberglass/honeycomb monocoque tub and turned it into a modern Formula One Car, for the street. That bell housing has to be exactly 6". That includes the 1/4" play you need for the torque thingy. You know, that thing that looks like a cheese wheel. All that was incredibly hard to do when you do it alone and don't even know what the parts are called. A Clutch Slave? What the heck is that? Summit Racing? Who are they? "Hey, where is the race car suspension store?" Don't even get me started about wiring!!!!!!!!!!!!! P.S. There was also the aluminum tube chassis and fiberglass body I made for that package to replicate the Porsches 917K and also a steel tube chassis and twin Subaru 6-cylinder engines to make a 12-cylinder boxer engine for the Porsche 917/10 Can Am Car that I still have. Yes, I actually did get it running, sort of.

You should take the ford dump truck, and jake's super special pt cruiser, and do a mile race. I would have liked to see you race him in the water world vette, but to late. Jake has the boost going on that rig, i just wanted to see if it could possibly beat another car, since he was testing on it after doing some repairs. Whoever owned that car was a boomer, and they parked that car in the winter for it to be so clean underneath of it. I have never seen anyone do the body mods on a pt cruiser like the stuff on jake's, it is hilarious, but jake look's perfect driving it lol. Please do a video with him, it would be hilarious. I like this vette, except for it being white, because it's a boring color, are you thinking of doing a wrap, that would be cool, just to see it being done, and how much work is involved in doing a wrap. Thanks for another great video.
