I started a video on changing the pull cord when my coil sping (is that the name?!) came out! I hunted youtube to find this great video on how to do it and tried it myself, trick worked like a charm!
Here is a link to the guy's KZbin channel who helped me

Thanks mate. No need to drown your voice with that crazy tune. Been fixing these for years except these newer saws have newer ways that my eyes just don't seem to see very well now.

Thanks for the spring rewind tip Mr McGinn. It works even in New Zealand ! Much appreciated.

Worked like a charm, I ran a tall screw down the middle of the spindle which gave me more stability while winding the spring back up, just backed it out when I needed to move tight to the nail.

Thank you and Lennie for this. It was a lifesaver, and now I know how to do it for future jobs.

String (no pun intended) of bad luck. Took the Husqvarna 55 Rancher to the mechanic and he charged $15 for a quick adjustment. Went to a neighbor to cut down a tree and I tightened the chain a touch, and forgot to tighten the two nuts back so after a single cut I saw the mistake and I'd lost one of the nuts. It was magnetic, but a hand search and magnetic broom type tool could not find the missing nut, so I went to a big box store and bought two replacement nuts. Came back, replaced the nuts and made sure all my adjustments were where I wanted, and I was off! 3 pulls later the pull string breaks. Today I went and bought a replacement string and had it all in place and ready, and made two test pulls to make sure everything had proper tension, then the recoil spring pops off. I tried most of what this guy did short of the nail with no luck, so I finally found this video and I'll try again. I'm not complaining. My Husqvarna chainsaw is awesome and my dad and I have cut down and cut up hundreds of trees with this saw, but no amount of quality can overcome a string of bad luck. Luckily for me I had just purchased a SunJoe electric extension pole saw to cut limbs over my head. This saw can disconnect from the pole and reconnect into a small, electric, but normal looking chainsaw which was good. That thing was worth it's weight in gold, and I was even able to cut through the base of a smaller tree that was about 12x20 inches using this with an 8 inch bar. Glad I found this though. That SunJoe is good, but not made for the work I have planned. Thanks for the good info McGinn's Woodshop!

Worked the first time and I didn't even have to pry the spring lose from the cap with a screwdriver, it just sort of popped out as I raised everything up the nail. I detached only the handle from the pull cord which made everything a little more awkward when turning the spring tight but not a major problem. Thanks!

Great video! Another thing to try is to loosen the allen bolt just a little and see if that frees up the starter pulley. Mine was a little to tight and didn't allow my pulley to retract all the way.

Forgot to add, that stare drive or what ever its called is pretty hopeless since they went to plastic. We need that to be made of sturdier stuff as the teeth will break off after a years work or less. So when you pull to start you get the impression that the bits on the inside has broken of but in fact its the teeth on that sprocket your playing with has broken off.

When replacing a pull start cord on a husqvarna, you do not need to remove the white pull start pulley. Do not unscrew it! It's not necessary to remove to replace cord.

Hi Island Guy - I wish I knew that BEFORE I took the white housing off! Lol. Now I'm trying this method. Got as far as getting it wound up, in the cover, but it slipped when I was getting the zip tie off!! Enough tries for today. (3 total). Laura

That's not the way to secure the cord to the pulley. It loops around the boss, underneath itself then is nipped by the screw.
@McGinnsWoodShop
@McGinnsWoodShop 7 жыл бұрын
Not sure what the boss is, but my method worked and still works. I'll have to look that term up, but sounds like it would give the cord more support. Thanks for the insight.
