So I was in Paris in 1998, and we went to this club in what had formerly been a church. That’s where I was drunk, happy, and dancing the first time I ever heard this song. 💃🏼❤️

An absolute masterpiece ! inspired by a girl Jarvis Cocker met at St Martin's Art College in Central London, literally everyone in the UK knows and loves this song🙂about the class divisions, Royalty, Lords, Ladies and the common people, wealth and poverty in the UK. nice reaction..🙂.

Jarvis Cocker [lead singer of Pulp] - Fat Children This is the banger you're looking for. And just about every track off _Different Class_ is perfection. Classic album.

Pulp were *so* great. Warmly recommend their albums His & Hers, Different Class, This Is Hardcore, and We Love Life, which is a bit of a Lost Classic. Sunrise is an EPIC song.

_We Love Life_ is underrated. "The Trees" & "Weeds" are top Pulp.

This song is epic live. Apparently it was partly a true story where a rich girl at a pub at University said this to him.

Reminds me of the classic old 60s film 'Up The Junction' with Dennis Waterman, where a rich girl decides to live like 'the common people'.. She buys a crap flat and gets a crap job and everything seems like a laugh until she meets a 'common' man who fantasises about being rich..

gosh, i'm looking that up right now. Up The Junction was a nice tune by Squeeze.

I'm still not living comfortably; working long hours for bad pay and rent that's way too high, starving in the leadup to payday each month. But if a pretentious rich girl offers me a free drink and sex for showing her the lifestyle I'll put up with it (and get some freebies and rent assistance while I'm at it) for maybe a few weeks before the dam bursts and I wouldn't be able to resist blasting this song.

This song really hits home for me becuase I grew up in the projects but I took a lot of honors and ap classes with the preppy rich kids and I would always be treated like some sort of special case. I remember when there was a shooting in my neighborhood and the next day everyone wanted to know about it. I even overheard someone saying how cool it was that I was there. Like, bro, it was terrifying. It’s not cool at all.

Exposing the class system in England, great. For a less political song by the same band, try "A little soul".
@balthazarbeutelwolf90972 жыл бұрын
I think there is a small difference between American and British English when it comes to the use of the phrase "common people", because there is still an aristocracy in the uk with an aristocratic lifestyle which is not solely based on wealth, e.g. the Middleton are commoners despite being wealthy, and despite their daughter having married a future king.
