The line in the script was “Oh! I shot Marvin” “Well why the shit you do that?” Travolta thought it be funnier if the line was “oh i shot Marvin in the face”. He asked Tarantino and he agreed. Or he did it by surprise on a take a Tarantino loved it so much he put it in the movie.

According to drug people on the internet, the preferred packaging for heroin is balloons, while baggies is for cocaine. When the dealer was out of balloons, and asked Vincent if baggies were ok, that was the moment Mia became destined for the OD since she has a coke habit and mistook the baggie drugs for coke instead of the "mad man" heroin which it was.
@jimmy2k4o
@jimmy2k4o 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for saving me the trouble of saying that. Also heroin is usually brown. And coke is obviously white. But very high quality pure heroin is sometimes white. So Mia has two reasons to assume it’s coke. Colour and the bag. But she should have licked her finger first, dipped it in the bag and tasted it, rubbing it into her gums to see if they go numb. That would be the huge give away that it wasn’t coke. Always taste test new substances especially if they come from a questionable source like a strangers pocket. Wisdom like this is what makes me believe I’ll be a great father lol

My interpretation is that god is real in this movie and he’s testing each of the characters. They do the right thing they live, Wrong thing they die. But they don’t get away with anything. Jules listened to god and that’s why he lived, Vincent ignored him and that’s why he died. God put Marcellus into butch’s path so he would lead butch and Marcellus to the creepy store so they could put an end to what those sick fuckers we’re doing. It also have butch his redemption for breaking his word or if you prefer “bearing false witness” god gave him the chance to save Marcellus from a horrible fate. More than makes up for the boxing scam.

Also, it appears Vincent and Jules were two of Marcellus top lieutenants and Marcellus accepted Jules quitting. That's why Marcellus was helping Vincent watch Butch's apartment. It was considered very unlikely Butch would go back to his apartment so both Vincent and Marcellus were being casual about guarding it.

John Travolta made his name dancing, Saturday Night Fever and Grease being two examples. Tarantino was smart to take advantage of that because it makes for a memorable scene. Everything in this movie really is connected. That watch story not only provides the reason why the watch is so important to Butch, it also shows you why Butch would go back to save Marcellus. That story of the watch involved two men surviving as prisoners together. Marcellus tells Butch to forget his pride, and Marcellus, as hardcore gangster as he is, winds up suffering a sexual assault that allows him to experience that loss of pride.

Oh so if you're wondering, this movie is about redemption among evil. Everybody in this movie is doing evil things, and then some sort of "act of god" comes. Surviving bullet shots that should've killed you, overdosing but being saved, escaping the rapists and getting rid of your debts. These are all things that affect each character, except for Mia who we never see the fate of after the overdose. Each character is doing wrong things and in a nutshell "god" is giving them a second chance. Jules takes the un-survivable bullets and realizes that he was actually doing evil things, and goes to live a path of the righteous, no more killing. Butch gets his chance at freeing his debts and gets to run away to a new life, and gives up his watch. But Vincent doesn't accept his second chance, and is gunned down in the bathroom. The path of the evil only leads to one thing, death.

We do see Mia post-overdose, in the “bowl of rice” scene. Beautiful little moment - she’s made up and put together again, and says to Vincent, “I never thanked you for dinner.” The camera doesn’t see Vincent’s reaction; all we see is her earnest, unwavering eye contact with him. There’s so much to say, but so much that can’t be said with Marcellus standing right there. Perfect little throwaway moment.

I've watched this movie 50+ times and still can't figure out how it actually manages to work as movie. Doesn't feel like there's a formula, but doesn't make sense that it could work without one. It is several separate connected stories, but sill doesn't feel like an anthology of stories. It feels like it has a beginning, middle, and end even though it kind of doesn't. Its like a piece of music, a concept album. Like the voice of Tarantino through his filmmaking serves as the main character of the movie. Pure. Pulp. Poetry.

The structure sort of feels a bit like an asymmetrical chiastic structure(I say asymmetrical in the amount of time each story beat is given), with the centerpiece being when Vincent dies. The moral play of Vincent is book-ended by Jule's "divine intervention" and "Mr Wallace doesn't like to be fucked by nobody but Mrs Wallace," which is further book-ended by the attempted diner robbery. Because the story isn't told chronologically, the structure seems invisible or non existent, but, I think the secret is that it's chiastic. I'm just sort of pulling this out of my ass -- I'd have to spend too many hours of analysis to confirm this -- but my gut says that this is probably the case.

This and In Bruges (2008) are my favorite crime movies. Both have hilarious dialogue and character interactions and both deal with the human side of crooks and how they approach morality (Pulp Fiction: Criminals being forced into moral dilemmas where they are given the choice to do the right thing. In Bruges: Criminals are forced into dilemmas where they have to contemplate the awful things they have done/could do and deciding whether or not they deserve forgiveness for them/whether good deeds are enough to make up for their sins). The part of Jules was written with Sam Jackson in mind, but the actor who winds up playing "Paul the bartender" almost got the role instead. @ 18:26 the apartment complex that Bruce Willis' character lived....FYI, in real life, this apartment complex was where Bruce lived when he moved to LA from NY....they checked to see if his old apartment was available to shoot the movie but it was not.

Let's be honest here Samuel Jackson should have received the Oscar - his best performance ever. Travolta was very good but Jackson another level.

Restaurants don’t get robed because of how many people can be dining at once which would be hard to control, also there is a lot of windows which are see through and can cause more attention.

If the movie goes sequentially, it would be very boring. But the way it was cut, that made it very interesting.

Marcellus was there with Vince. He was bringing back donuts and coffee. That why Vince didn’t think anything of noise in kitchen he thought it was Marcellus. One of those movies more you watch more you understand all the greatness.

The first time i saw this movie I was flipping channels and came in when Christopher Walken was telling the story about the watch, as soon as it went off i switched to the west coast feed of HBO or Showtime or whatever channel it was on and watched from the beginning. I've been in love with Tarantino every since.

Might be classified as an Anthology? Usually I think of that as a collection completely different stories by different directors/authors, like with AniMatrix or Halo: Legends, but it might apply to this format too.

To me this whole movie is unlocked by the final segment. Is it divine intervention or random chance? The main characters are hit with alot of coincidences and the movie explores what they chose to take from these experiences or ignore. Jules debates the missed bullets endlessly; about what it means; through the lens of his bible story that he never thought about much before. Ultimately in the final diner scene he comes to his own conclusions, it doesn't matter. What matters is that when things like this happen he has a choice to ignore it or make a change. I.E. "....I am the terrorney of evil men, but I'm trying real hard to be the Shepherd." Meanwhile, Vincent constantly ignores signals and chances and ends up on the toilet at the wrong moment yet again.

Marcellus and Vincent were staking out Butches place together. Marcellus really did see Vincent as more of a brother then he did as an a random employee. Plus his connections to the mobsters of Reservoir dogs. His brother being a direct trusted member. The Vega’s are extraordinarily loyal. And they have a good mind for who they work for. In Vincent’s case. As Butch got to that intersection Marcellus was holding a very effeminate box full of sweet pastries. And not one. But two large cups of coffee. Marcellus chose him. The reason why was to get closer to him as the dumbest and least likely move for butch to make would be to go back home of all places. You can tell in those simple instances of how Marcellus not only respected Vincent, but also A trusted him, and B this was sort of supposed to be a chill and safe side of the scoping out. I wouldn’t doubt that’s how he sold it to Vega. And Vincent took the job super chill when usually he’s on point. Which is why he made the dismissive decision to leave the sub machine gun on the table.

Butch went back to save Marcellus because what was happening to Marcellus was far worse than their personal beef. He couldn't accept leaving Marcellus to that fate. There is a more subtle motivation which is why Butch chose the katana. The whole watch thing was a bit goofy, but Butch didn't believe he was worthy of it since he was a cheat. He redeemed himself as a warrior by doing this.

Idk if anybody has said it yet, but Mia and Vincent DIDN'T win the dance competition. In the very first scene of the movie, the restaurant robbers are reading a newspaper with an article talking about how the trophy was stolen from the competition
I've never seen "PULP FICTION"...UNTIL NOW!
