Personally, I would highly recommend the Pulsar LT, I have been using mine for almost 3 years now and have zero complaints. I have a 2020 Silverado RST with the 6.2, and with a few minor mods and no engine work, the performance is noticeably better. I am currently running the Pulsar LT, K&N Cold Air intake, and the Borla S type bolt on aftermarket exhaust, which I installed all myself. The difference is night and day. I am amazed how 3 simple mods can make such a big difference. I did my research and watched several videos, the Pulsar alone is nice, but I promise, if you do all 3 mods that I described, you WILL NOT be disappointed, and for the guy who made the vide, you already have 2 of the 3 mods that I described, so buy the Pulsar LT and do another video, describing the results. LOL....

What I noticed when I fail to disable the auto-off feature is, when I'm stopped at the light and take my foot off the brake, the truck instantly moves forward when the engine starts. It can't be good for those lifters to be slapping around with no damn oil pressure. Nobody will convince me that the oil pressure is instantaneous. Also, if you think about it, only having one or two cylinders firing means the rest go cold. The head now only has heat from one cylinder firing. I've been a mechanic for a long time, and that uneven expansion and contraction causes tolerance disparities. It's an 8 cylinder engine. They're all meant to be firing or I'd have purchased a 4 cylinder. These systems are just more expensive parts to break. I hate engineers and the government placing ridiculous expectations on vehicle manufacturers.

As someone who has the borla s type split rear exhaust, the S&B cold air intake and the pulsar LT on my 2020 at4, most of those stories are absolute nonsense. And please believe me, you will absolutely want that throttle response boost. I have the 5.3 and man did it wake my truck up. Yes it doesn't give you more power, but its allowing you to maximize the power your truck already has. GM dumbed it down so much. That throttle lag is all but gone on level 3. Exhaust sounds amazing in all gears, at any RPM. No buzzing or gurgling and that hard downshift coming to a stop is gone. The pulsar fixed almost everything and i couldn't be more happy. I will keep you informed here as i put miles on the truck with this setup. But get it man, trust me. Just get it lol

The lifter to push rod to rocker set up has pretty much been the same since the original 5.3 liters were made. We’ve worked on our own stuff for years, have friends that are 15 + year mechanics, we have 4 gm products from 2004 to 2006 that all have 250k miles or more on the original engines with no lifter issues and the part of the lifter that normally fails in the roller. The rollers are exactly the same in the new engines as the old ones that didn’t have afm dfm ect. Sometimes the collapsible part of the lifter collapses and doesn’t open back up which is caused from being open and closed so much that it gets worn out. Said all that to say the main major difference from the old stuff to this modern gm stuff is the oil weight that gm is saying to use. The old engines use 10w30 while the new stuff is 0w20. My Tahoe with 250k at idle has 30-35 psi oil pressure while my 2019 had about 16 psi or less (not enough). The thin oil is so that the lifter will collapse quickly and that is it. Turn the afm- dfm off so the lifters stay fully opened all the time, run 10w30 diesel oil ( has twice the zinc and Molly in it than your gasoline oils) which keeps wear down and keeps the oil from wearing down as fast. You’ll never have an issue if done early enough in miles. Drive and enjoy. My 2019 not has 25 + psi at idle at 210 temp and has 60psi at 55mph now. Add a half of a quart of Lucas oil additive ever oil too. That stuff is the best engine lubricant that has ever been made.
@TorqueWagon5 ай бұрын
I drive a Dodge Magnum with the 5.7 Hemi and have noticed a similar oil pressure issue. That engine calls for 5w20 and my oil pressure at idle is around 16 psi. I don’t worry too much about it at this point because I’m at 166,000 miles and haven’t had any issues yet, but I’ve considered switching to a thicker oil to get that pressure up.

I installed the Pulsar Lt last week on my 2021 Silverado 6.2. I did a muffler delete a couple months ago and it sounds awesome except with DFM it sounds like crap if you are not in V8. Now it is night and day difference. The driving experience is so much better. The power is constant and the sound is great. Since I did the muffler delete I can hear the DFM and I can totally match the lack of performance with the sound. It made it really clear to me. Now it is consistent sound with performance if that makes any sense. Once I was convinced it would not affect my warranty I installed it. I also think it will not hurt my engine with all the lifter issues I’ve been hearing about. if anything, it will help it or if it happens it will not play any role in it happening whatsoever if it’s going to happen it’s going to happen with or without a Pulsar.

Thoroughly enjoyed your explanation on this issue that GM has been having with their trucks. This 63 year old girl has an understanding of how transmissions and engines work. By the age of 18, I helped with rebuilding my 1967 V8 Mustang and, at the age of 26, rebuilding my 1969 straight 6, Ford truck. Those were the days literally. I could stand inside the engine compartment and do the rebuild. Anyway, I would concur with your assessment of the issue and glad that GM has been able to work through those issues. Our 2023 6.2 SLT has arrived. But unfortunately we have to wait a few more days. But we, too, would like to disable that DFM. I'm not sure if we will opt for the pulsar. Truly enjoy reading the comments below, and we'll be joining the GM forum as your subscribers have mentioned. Hi everyone, I want to update that I installed myPulsar 2 months ago. I had my first oil change at the dealer last week at just over 3000 miles. They wanted me to wait until 5000 miles, but I said no. I unplugged the Pulsar and had the crappiest drive to and from the dealership since having installed the unit. I literally can feel and hear the difference while driving. I asked the manager about the failing lifter issues with the 5.3 and 6.2 engines. He said it is a real issue and also random. If I have a failure, they will repair under warranty no questions asked. BTW, I immediately plugged in my Pulsar when I got home because I am so used to the drive now, I can’t stand DFM. I can’t say if it will help saving your engine with a lifter failure, but it will definitely not create a lifter issue. A lifter issue will happen randomly regardless. So I’m personally going to enjoy full time V8. If I have lifter failure, time to unplug it and get my new truck fixed. I am considering the cold air intake system. The dealership can install it at a good price and it does not void warranty. Probably install it after the holidays. Happy holidays everyone.

Yeah they'll only repair/replace the lifters on the bank that had a failure. They don't do both banks at the same time, but the other side will have a failure some time soon. I know, my 2015 6.2 failed in cylinder 7 about a year out of warranty. Paid the Stealership to replace all lifters on one side. I asked them to replace the other bank while they had it apart, they said no not needed. Was told my truck idled for 45 minutes after they put it back together, Tech went to drive my truck, BLAMMO lifter on the other side failed before he even got out of their lot. Waited longer for them to tear it apart again. This is the same policy/procedure for trucks under warranty.

The biggest cause of lifter problems is oil change frequency and quality of oil being used. Using a high quality oil base 3/4 level synthetic with a good filter ie wix brand and faithfully changing it every 5-7 thousand kilometers will prevent the issues. The system requires oil pressure to operate and if the oil passageways get a restriction the problem will happen.

All are stock with absolutely no modifications (other than suspension lifts and tires on the 2500s) every single one of them have electrical issues! Whether it be turn signals going off randomly or the radio starting after you shut the truck off and shut the door with the key in your pocket, every one of them has some electric malfunction. My cousin who also works on the farm has a 2018 GMC SLE and his radio will randomly go through menus without him even touching the screen. I just bought a 2021 AT4 and I pick it up Friday, I already have the Pulsar at my house ready to install because I had so many issues with the Active Fuel Management system on a older Chevy I had that I’m not taking the chances on this one. Hey Don - I just installed the Pulsar LT on my truck and guess what? My Amp Research power steps STOPPED working. I was able to pull the fuse for the Amp Research module and it fixed it. The motorized power steps are now working with the Pulsar LT. For some reason (after I installed the Pulsar LT...they didn't want to play well together). Also, the Auto Start/Stop LED light will remain "on" but the feature is disabled. I talked with Pulsar LT on the phone this morning to confirm everything is correct. Everything else is working with the Pulsar LT (programming, functionality, etc). Hope this helps.

Did you get your truck tuned by the dealer when you got the exhaust and cold air intake?
@Donslife3 жыл бұрын
Good question. No the products I chose don’t require a tune. The GM performance intake requires one though. Most of the aftermarket intakes will have you disable the air filter life monitor in your settings. The GM tune for their intake would adjust for the new filter too. Also disconnecting the battery for a couple hours before starting the truck with the new intake will ensure the PCM learns the ideal air/fuel mixture with the new intake and you can avoid a CEL.

Lifters should never have a rub factor on pushrods as they sit in a bowl in the lifter, the flat side sits on the camshaft. the lifter has an open end with a beveled out or hollow if you will that the pushrod sits in. not sure how a pushrod will contact the side or edge of a push rod unless its a manufacturing defect. @@Donslife you are correct and I had it backwards. What I was told by him when I bought mine is the 6.2 doesn’t have the old style cylinder drop. They called it a more advanced fuel mapping. DFM. Which I just looked up and it’s still a cylinder drop, just a smarter version with 17 different configurations. Either way I’m always in sport so I don’t notice it. I do notice my average 13.7mpg though. Haha.

No. It's the DFM causing the valve issues. I've had two new Silverados 6.2L and 5.3L both need top end rebuilds before 30,000 miles because of this. The Pulsar corrected it.

Correct you haven’t had a problem yet but you will and it WILL be expensive to fix.

Or very annoying and inconvenient even though covered under warranty
@neillatham47422 жыл бұрын
@donslife you’ll have problems with your warranty if you rock up to your dealership with that pipe and intake on, if they are not Chevy part numbers you’re in trouble. I have done a lot of talking to service managers at GM dealerships, they all say the same thing…. Warranty issues

Another great informative video Don. I’ve been contemplating the Pulsar LT, especially after I realized Chevrolet “said” I can’t go over 98mph. Not that I like to go fast all the time, but the fact I can’t if I wanted too doesn’t sit well with me. And the auto shut off button having to be turned every time is kinda annoying. I was wondering if you pulled the trigger on installing the Pulsar kit yet?

Not yet, been so busy and for now I have been shifting to L9 for around town driving. Like you the speed limiter got in the way a couple times this summer when I needed the extra speed to pass some people on the highway. I think I will get one, just not a priority

@@Donslife I can relate to other priorities getting in the way. I’m seriously considering purchasing this, but if this upgrade fails in any way I’ll never hear the end of it from my wife!! I watched your Borla exhaust install and it sounds super sweet with true duals. My Silverado has factory single side exit and I’m researching now what would sound best for me. I’m thinking Flowmaster FlowFX single black tip or side exit behind both tires!!!

@@markgray2931 I am sure you’ve seen this video, but I was able to record some of the exhaust note with DFM disabled by driving in ‘L’ and it sounds soooo good. I don’t think you can go wrong with the flow master set up. I have some viewers promote them. Hopefully you don’t get too much drone. My Magnaflow cat back droned a bit on me 6.2 Denali before I got my AT4

The speed is limited because of the speed rating of the tires. Going faster than that the tires could come apart
