Pulsar PG4000iSR Real World Test On RV/Travel Trailer Appliances

Testing the Pulsar PG4000iSR in a real world setting to see if it can run the appliances in a RV or Travel Trailer. We tested the Air Conditioning which is a 13,500BTU AC, Microwave, Electric Hot Water Heater and then the every day appliances (TV, Laptops, Lights, Radio etc). The Pulsar handled all of these appliances without a hiccup.
From inside the Fifth Wheel the generator could hardly be heard from where it sat about 20 feet away. The 30amp RV Ready plug coupled with the remote start makes this the perfect solution for RVers.

I have had this generator for a year now. Used it about a dozen times from last summer to now with the RV. I have not had any real problems with it. Mine came with the 30AMP RV outlet upside down. That was an easy fix. Only real issues I have experienced involve the wheels popping off occasionally. They are held on by circle clips. I have also had to replace the battery. That was not an issue. I called Pulsar and they sent me one free of charge. It arrived in 3 days!

That depends.... how many amps does your AC and Microwave draw? Of the fifth wheels and travel trailers we have tested the AC usually draws between 14-18 amps. The microwave usually draws about 10-12 amps. It would be close to maxing out the 30 amp receptacle.

@revthomasstanley8001
@revthomasstanley8001 5 жыл бұрын
I have the same model that he is demonstrating. I run mine near the edge of the garage with the door open and I have no vibration or rattles. I know what you're saying because I heard other people complaining that there is a wheel rattle when the unit is running under load. When I ordered mine I figured that I was going to be seeing the same thing but I have absolutely no complaints and no rattles it runs smooth. I'm surprised the demo that was done here did not mention the remote start but I see that he has one as the remote start is hanging off the side of the machine. This unit without fuel weighs 106 lb I still find it too heavy for an old guy like myself to lift it up and to put it into the bed of a pickup truck by myself. But I also have a 10000 watt Pulsar dual fuel propane and gas generator and that baby weighs close to 490 lb. What made me get the smaller unit was I had to a job cutting trees and it was a bear to move. I have a special security setup that I store the larger one in. It came with wheels as the smaller unit but if you have loose dirt or light sandy dirt like we do in Colorado it's a bear to move across the the land. The smaller 4000 unit has a extendable handle that I'm a little bit leery about its plastic but it does allow you to lift it up on its two wheels and bring it across a fairly level surface. Wouldn't try taking it across rough Terrain. I've had no problems with my 4000 Watt unit. I did have problems when I got the 10,000 what unit it wouldn't start right up from the factory and there was no service people in the area who were willing to touch you or work with me on it. Customer service was excellent they had the replacement parts that I needed in my hands within 4 days and I was able to to install the replacement parts. I had someone who was more knowledgeable than me on call so that if I got into trouble I had a backup. But I didn't have any problems at all and the unit has been him running flawlessly ever since. the one thing I think the Pulsar people could do better on is to put a sticker on the shipping box or on the inside of the instruction manual that actually tells you what the serial number is. I still have not seen the serial number on my 10000 watt unit. And I still can't find it on the smaller 4000 Watt unit. I got it when I called the service people on to 10,000 you might unit for replacement parts she looked it up and she gave me the number without batting an eye. They were really organized and very helpful and had the problems diagnosed over the phone within a minute. Very pleased with the customer service.

Thanks for all your videos! I had a question you might be able to answer I am looking at getting myself a new genny for my travel trailer and I am torn between this one and the Westinghouse Igen 4500.. I would go with the Igen because its quieter on paper but there seems to be some auto choke issues with it. After working with both in real world environments how do you think they compare directly, Is this one really that much more noisy then the igen? how have they stood up over time ?
@generatorpower7744
@generatorpower7744 5 жыл бұрын
Both generators have the same auto choke system. I believe both manufacturers are working on a solution. They are VERY similar motors. It really comes down to price/power. They each offer different price points and max power output. The Pulsar amzn.to/2WfTri4 is roughly $829 and the Westinghouse: amzn.to/2YG6arV is roughly $949.

NOISE: OK, Rating between the PG4000 and iGen4500 is that pulsar rates their noise at 62 decibels and the iGen at 52 decibels. This would seem to say....the larger (4500 Watt) iGen was 10 decibels quieter than the Pulsar PG4000ISR. If you take their word,,,,, then "YES", but I call this CRAP.....A) a larger motor being quieter? and....let me tell you......this is very, very subjective...... I have not compared these two generators, so I will not say anything NOT FACT. But I can for a fact tell you......Placing the following together, as a test to compare, I found the Pulsar Quieter than the following: 1) Pulsar PG2000ISR, 2) Predator 2000 (from Harbor Docks), 3) Honda EU2000, and the Pulsar was the Quietest of all three. Again, My PulsarPG2000ISR, which is half the motor of the Pulsar 4000 and iGen 4500, and its noise is absolutely tested at 59 decibels......THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY I WILL BELIEVE...THE iGEN, TWICE THE SIZE OF THE pg2000, IS ONLY 4 DECIBELS MORE.......SOMEBODY IS LYING OR MEASURING A MUCH DIFFERENT WAY THAN THE OHER...

I would not suggest anything at only 1,000 watts, plus most of the small units like that are not 4 cycle........plus.....you're gonna need more than 1,000 watts, trust me. And yes, the 2000 watt units are all over the place.....and remember this.....they advertise 1,000 or 2,000....as the temp "push" wattage, but the generators operate at 600 or 1,600....not 1,000 or 2,000.....there again...if you want 1,000 watts, get the 2,000 "burst power" which then settles back to 1,600 continuous power.....If you buy the Pulsar PG2000ISR, at eBay, YOU CAN BUY IT AT EBAY FOR ONLY $399...MAKE SURE YOU BUY THE "iNVERTER GENERATOR" NOT THE PLAIN REGULAR OLD FASHIONED "GENERATOR".....BIT, BIG DIFFERENCE IN GAS SAVINGS...

Hello; You don't have to connect a surge protector between the generator and valuable items, I've had many generators and Pulsar Brand Products have been the best for maintaining a safe output. However, surge protection would not be a bad idea, just for carefulness ( in the event say....cable drops into water...)....but the power is...steady, and safe....they talk about it being sine wave and all that....and in 3 years, I've never experienced any of my 6 Pulsar's to "blow too much or burst energy"....it's very well regulated.

I KNOW THIS ANSWER BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO "FIT" THE RIGHT GENERATOR FOR MY 45 FOOT SAILING YACHT.....I STARTED WITH A PG2000ISR AND ADDED "START CAPACITORS TO THE 5,000 BTU AC's, AND COULD RUN TWO AT A TIME, BUT WANTED THREE...PLUS THE FRIG AND ALL OTHER STUFF, BATTERY CHARGERS MICROWAVE ETC. I GOT THE PULSAR pg4000ISR.......Just because I'm a spoiled rat, but I would like to point out.....you could by one PG2000ISR and then, if you need more, you can buy a second one, and link them, like you can, to make a4000 watt generator. You can buy the PG200oISR now...right now at eBay for only $389 X 2=$778....but this affords you the excellent opportunity to use the 2000 and if not enough, get another. When I got my PG4000ISR it's HUGE....BIG...LARGE, HEAVY ABOUT 100 POUNDS.....I COULD ACTUALLY CARRY ONE PG2000 IN MY RIGHT AND LEFT HANDS AT ONE TIME....NOT THE PG4000....IT TAKES 2 PEOPLE TO LIFT AND MOVE IT AROUND,,,, IF NOT JUST ROLLING EASILY FROM PLACE TO PLACE..... I STRONGLY WOULD SUGGEST...GET ONE PULAR 2000....USE IT......IF YOU NEED MORE....BUY THE CONNECTOR, AND IF YOU BUY FROM eBay not Amazon.....you can search in the winter (NOT around hurricane season,,, prices get higher).

ATTENTION>>BEST ANSWER>> I HAVE PURCHASED 3 PG2000ISR MODELS AND ONE PG4000ISR. The PG4000ISR WILL RUN YOUR 13500 BTU AC...... HERE'S WHAT YA GOTTA DO....1) The Pulsar Generators don't pull so hot until they are broken in, certainly after the first change of oil......I had a similar problem that resolved, once the pulsar was broken in......(it kept "popping the fault red light" when I simply tried a 5,000 BTU AC on the PG2000, but then after about 10 hours of running, and a change of oil......it started that very same AC with no other variables, but...just being "Broken in".2) Also, I added "Start Capacitor", they may be called by other names, but they cost under $10 Bucks and you install it (very simple to do) into the Air Conditioner. This added Capacitor holds Lotsa energy and makes the initial start, much sooner and smoother...
