Pulsar Ultimate Man of Adventure was released by Mattel in the 70's, and was not available in the UK. I was sent this figure by the guys at Toylanta as they thought it would be a fun restoration. And it was. New stickers, mission disks, paint touch ups, and lots more.
Check out Toylanta here: www.joelanta.org/

This is a cool figure, i take it he's another take off of the Six Million Dollar Man? Great work on reproducing those discs Dave, i can't imagine i'd have come up with a solution as good as that!

I’ve always thought Pulsar was a great Action Figure. He definitely is Mattel’s answer to Kenner’s Six Million Dollar Man! Even though Kenner never gave him a back story, as a kid I came up with a clever one. Great restoration and I loved your solution to Pulsar’s mission disks! Great video!

i just turned 50 so i've been very nostalgic this year for the toys of my childhood lately and I'm realizing I was quite spoiled when I think back to all of the figures, vehicles & playsets I had in the 70s. Pulsar was one of them and I just remembered his name after seeing him on Facebook group. Nice restoration here with limited materials

Love your videos man! (I have an odd question, have you ever tried to work out a way to "re-flock" Action Man hair and beards or the Flock holy grail "Panthor" from Masters of the universe?? ☺ Seems to be a mystery for toy repairers. PS: You are the man! I send everyone your way when talking about fixing vintage things.. not just toys! ☺

I believe he actually did. There's a video he made awhile back of a very badly damaged Action Man that had been painted red and "left for scrap" by the previous owner. There's a part of that video where the damaged hair and beard is restored using some sort of glue and some matching "fuzz" from an inexpensive source.

This figure so needs a re-release. Because I like the concept of this action figure. The only problem with this figure, and probably why it didn’t sell as well as expected is mostly the lack of backstory for Pulsar. Give the Rom Spaceknight toy some credit, though his story was vague, they still touched on him, and he got an awesome Marvel comic book series to go with it. Can’t say the same for Pulsar, though. Oh well, this is still a cool toy, and I think we need a newly restored version of this figure.

I notice you use different glue for different jobs. Super glue, gorilla, plastic weld etc. How do you decide which glue to use in which application?
@toypolloi
@toypolloi 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on what I am trying to glue. There is no one glue for everything. Plastic weld works better than anything as it's not really a glue, but it only works on certain types of plastic. Super glue is good, but brittle, so no good on flexible surfaces, canopy glue is for clear plastic, etc.

@brianartillery

Plastic Weld is made by EMA Model supplies. Just do a search for 'Plastic Weld'. When you get it, make sure that you shut the bottle after every use - it evaporates very quickly - you can lose half a bottle in a few hours if you are not careful. Use a fine tipped, wooden handled brush to apply it, and you only need the tiniest drop on the brush to fix parts together. It evaporates so quickly, it leaves frost on the brush. It's great stuff, which I've used for many years.

Something you might want to try is a mixture of three parts surgical spirit to one part oil of wintergreen (methyl salicylate). I’ve used it lots of times over the years to soften/restore rubber boots and other motorcycle parts and it always works very well. For such small parts as AM hands should get good results in 24 hours or less.

After you had married the hand to the wrist (07:55), you should have then got a tiny amount of Plastic Weld on your brush, and just touched it to the end of the break. Capilliary action would have run a bead of Plastic Weld along the crack, sealing it. You would not have even been able to see the crack afterwards. I've used this stuff for about 30 years now, and I swear by it. It's great for tiny hard to reach parts. It's great stuff, and permanent, too, and not denatured by damp, as Superglue is.
